24 hour reception, nicely furnished room, clean and tidy. Internet access. Location is very central, 2 mins from station Opera. The Air conditioning system ventillated rather smelly air. |

Being in the centre and having air conditioning. I didn't like having to leave the room before midday, that wasn't clear on the reservation. |

Very close to the royal palace/ opers house area. The staff are friendly. It's good value for money. The breakfast is delivered on a tray when we arrive and consists of pre wrapped cakes. It would be nicer to have breakfast delivered in the morning with fresh croissants etc |

The tea and coffee on the room. The place where the hostal is situeted. That there was not a possibility for cheap parking. It costed us 27 euro a day. |

The position of the Hotel, its cleanliness, its internet access, its Air conditioner was fine. The entrance of the building is very beautiful, the neighbourhood is safe. The boss was very nice. The staff spoke and understood only Spanish. My room was close to the reception so i heard everything. The walls are too thin. The breakfast is only 4 or 5 cookies. The window was glazed so I couldn't see outside. View on a court. |

Room and bathroom cleaning. Very close to town centre. The bathroom was really too small! (something like 1 m2 + shower). Maybe other rooms are different. |

The hotel is in an excellent location both for travelling to/from the airport and for proximity to the major attractions. It's nicely decorated and reasonably well equipped for this type of hotel. Extremely noisy all night every night, both from adjacent rooms and from the floor above ("Backpackers"). No sleep for 3 nights. Air conditioning was not included in the price and even when I tried to pay the surcharge was still told "not possible" - annoying because closing the window might have kept some of the noise out. |

We liked the proximity to downtown Madrid and could walk to so many historical places and galleries and shopping. The staff at the desk were helpful with info. The paintings everywhere offered a warm atmosphere. The breakfast was not really a breakfast -instant coffee and cookies. The size of the bathroom is pretty snug. |

Hostal Gran Duque is centrally located in Madrid, handy to the metro stations and near shopping and museums. The room was very clean and had everything you need. The hostal has beautiful art work on the walls and is architecturally interesting. It is a secure building and safe for travellers. The staff was not friendly, or helpful. They did not make any effort to help us with questions about the area or about connecting to transportation options such as the train or bus. Our spanish was limited but we made the effort to communicate in their language. They seemed unwilling to help us with the typical questions a visitor would have. |

I liked it was simple, the pot for making hot water, and the tea and sweet tray. The hose and shower head did not fit in the holder on the wall. The shower was very small for an average American. |

Very well located; within a short walk of Royal Palace, Cathedral, Plaza Mayor, Plaza de Orient, Opera House, Metro, and multiple quality dining establishments. Free internet. Good price relative to other options in area. Extremely noisy - both from street, common areas and adjacent rooms - until 3:00 AM on a Monday night. Only a double bed (with one long pillow) as opposed to two twin beds (and two pillows) in double rooms in other hotels on our trip. Breakfast included wasn't fresh; instant coffee. |

Very centrally placed, almost next to the Opera House, yet in a nice quiet street. Hard to find, due to a lack of a sign of any size. The staffs` command of English poor, hardly any information leaflets. Also not sure if people are aware the hotel is on the 3rd floor, although there is a lift. |
