Very good value for money. Location very central. Flushing the toilet was a bit of an adventure - basically the toilet functioned like a vacuum cleaner - water would flow and an engine would suck the contents inside. The problem was that when the engine started the entire toilet floor started shaking for a few minutes. Nothing actually happenned, but the entire process was a bit scary for my taste. I probably would not stay there again for this reason. However, if you don't mind this tiny problem, the hostal is quite nice. |

The location is very good. The bathroom is well-furnished. Light breakfast is not enough. It's just snack. The wall is extremely thin. So I heard clearly voice of the next room behind the wall. Security box is not free and is not secured. |

Very central, just steps away from the metro station Opera. Quiet, food and other shops available around. Small rooms but shower facilites are OK. The guy at the reception is very friendly and speaks good English. It was not really a breakfast, you should't pay extra money for breakfast. |

It was good for a 2 star hostel, very central location, a nice room and bathroom, nice paintings in the corridors and in the room, free internet, tea pot in the room, a kitchen with a refrigerator just in case you need to store something. The stuff was kind and helpful, but not knowing english was a turn off. The stuff does not know any word in english! If you don't speak spanish you may feel uncomfortable as I did. The breakfast cookies are not fresh and edible. The lift is too small and the hotel is in the 3rd floor which was discomfortable for me. |

The hostal is in a excelent point in Madri, between Plaza del Sol and King's Castle, with diferents metro lines near; a central place, but in a little and calm street. The room is comfortable and clean, with a private bathroom and everything work. The breakfast isn´t good, but in the street's corner, beside the Opera, there is a good Caffeteria. |

It was very well located, rooms were comfortable, bathroom somewhat small, very good price, free access to internet. For a long stay at afordable price, this is a very good option. Unfortunately, air conditioning did not work in my room, at a time when temperatures are quite high in Madrid... |

Being in the centre and having air conditioning. I didn't like having to leave the room before midday, that wasn't clear on the reservation. |

Very close to the royal palace/ opers house area. The staff are friendly. It's good value for money. The breakfast is delivered on a tray when we arrive and consists of pre wrapped cakes. It would be nicer to have breakfast delivered in the morning with fresh croissants etc |

The position of the Hotel, its cleanliness, its internet access, its Air conditioner was fine. The entrance of the building is very beautiful, the neighbourhood is safe. The boss was very nice. The staff spoke and understood only Spanish. My room was close to the reception so i heard everything. The walls are too thin. The breakfast is only 4 or 5 cookies. The window was glazed so I couldn't see outside. View on a court. |

Room and bathroom cleaning. Very close to town centre. The bathroom was really too small! (something like 1 m2 + shower). Maybe other rooms are different. |

The hotel is in an excellent location both for travelling to/from the airport and for proximity to the major attractions. It's nicely decorated and reasonably well equipped for this type of hotel. Extremely noisy all night every night, both from adjacent rooms and from the floor above ("Backpackers"). No sleep for 3 nights. Air conditioning was not included in the price and even when I tried to pay the surcharge was still told "not possible" - annoying because closing the window might have kept some of the noise out. |

We liked the proximity to downtown Madrid and could walk to so many historical places and galleries and shopping. The staff at the desk were helpful with info. The paintings everywhere offered a warm atmosphere. The breakfast was not really a breakfast -instant coffee and cookies. The size of the bathroom is pretty snug. |

Hostal Gran Duque is centrally located in Madrid, handy to the metro stations and near shopping and museums. The room was very clean and had everything you need. The hostal has beautiful art work on the walls and is architecturally interesting. It is a secure building and safe for travellers. The staff was not friendly, or helpful. They did not make any effort to help us with questions about the area or about connecting to transportation options such as the train or bus. Our spanish was limited but we made the effort to communicate in their language. They seemed unwilling to help us with the typical questions a visitor would have. |
