We highly recommend Hotel Plaza Mayor....clean, historical and modern, quaint, economical, and in a good central location close to shopping. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Hotel Plaza Mayor and we recommend it to all travelers! only one....we could not use our pre-paid international calling card from the room but phone calls to the US direct from the room were reasonably priced |

We had a very pleasant stay at the Plaza Mayor (our second stay there). Its central location is ideal for exploring Madrid. The staff were all very friendly and approachable, and were able to give good advice about places to go, the metro, etc. They were happy to speak English if need be. |

Fantastic location, very handy to central Madrid, and all you need for a weekend stay. Being woken at 8am on a Saturday morning by the cleaner cleaning rooms on our floor. Very thin walls. |

central location, staff We had a standard room which was v. small, with a small frosted glass window covered by a net curtain. However, if you pulled back the net curtain and opened the small frosted glass window, the view of roof tops was very pleasant. |

The hotel is in an excellent location within easy walking to all the inner city sightseeing attractions. The nearest Metro station is about 5-10 minutes away, an easy walk. There is an abundance of shops, cafes and restaurants at this location. We had a quiet room towards the back, but we did not like that we could not let in any fresh air, the window/patio door could not be opened. We also thought the furniture and decor could use some upgrading. |

The location is great. It is right off the Plaza Mayor. You can quickly walk to the Sol Metro station. We even walked to the Palacio Real and it wasn't too long of a walk. |

Unobtrustive but friendly service; for the price, centrally located as it is, pretty good value. Girl who runs breakfast is obliging. My husband was going to arrive 5 mins after official close-down (quite strictly observed in other Spanish hotels) but she held it for him. It included eggs and bacon! Had we stayed longer, a mini-bar would have been a good idea. (Hot in Madrid in October!) |

This hotel's outstanding feature is its location, right next to the Plaza Mayor, and close to the Puerta del Sol metro Room was a little squeezy, and room cleaning a bit slow. A bit of noise from passing traffic, especially buses |

Stay was short, but staff very accommodating. Wi-fi worked well. Location excellent. My room was tiny, but maybe that was part of the reason that the price was reasonable. I'd take that trade-off any time. |

Idally located in the heart of the old city - 2 minutes from the Metro "Sol" - but outside of any noise nuisance: had a room on the 4th floor, and I had a nice sleep, without being bothered by street noise or such. Free WiFi, which was very useful to me. Would use this hotel any time if going to Madrid for business on a low budget for a couple of nights only. During my spare time, managed to easily discover the old city of Madrid, had a large choice of restaurant. The room I had was very tiny - 20 cm around the bed, not table or such. Did not mind working on the bed, with my laptop on the knees - but would not stay there for a week or so. Breakfast was served from 8 till 10 - which is a Madrid standard, but since I was expected at 8:00 at the conference centre outside the city, this wasn't ideal. |

The hotel is conveniently located right in the center of the city, within a walking distance from all the major sightseeings but thanks to the fact that it's tucked away on one of the smaller plazas, it's quiet by night and early morning and safe to walk late at night too. The bed is quite comfortable and the air conditioning functions well. The hotel is very clean and the room service is provided daily. The staff is very friendly and helpful and all speak good English. The bed takes up almost all of the space in a sinlge room. It didn't pose any inconveniences to me. Just posting it here in case it makes any difference to potential guests. |

The close proximity to the beautiful Plaza Mayor, shopping, the Prado Museum, Retiro Park and the metro. The hotel was clean, convenient and a lovely building. Breakfast did not include substantial cereal like muesli, only packaged cereals. |

The location was excellent , the staff friendly and helpful and the bedroom and bathroom were clean and perfectly comfortable We were upgraded to a better room at no extra cost, so I cannot comment on what other rooms may be like.Very good value for such a great location. I thought it would have been good to have had a cheaper option for breakfast.Although the full breakfast was good value , many people only want a continental style. The internet facility was also very expensive, but there was a very reasonable internet cafe over the road. |

The location of the hotel is fantastic, perfect for visiting all the sights and very convenient for the metro. The breakfast service was good, and the staff were friendly and helpful. We were able to store our baggage for the day prior to an early evening flight which was very handy. |
