El Horcajo is an Andalucian working farm located in Sierra de Grazalema Natural Park, 20 Km north-west of Ronda and a little over 100 km. from Sevilla and Málaga.

The main country house, over 170 years old, which has been converted into a fully-equipped quality rural accommodation, without any loss of its essential character. It offers relaxation in natural surroundings with a comfortable and intimate family atmosphere. Constructed nearby are family units which have been built in traditional style to blend in with the older buildings.

Hotel information

The Hotel's estate and surrounding "Sierra de Grazalema" Natural Park are exceptional for bird-watching, botanizing and walking.

In spring, the flowers form multi-coloured carpets along the paths and lanes. In the "Sierra del Pinar" eagles and vultures can usually be seen circling among the tops of the mountains.

A swimming-pool with its own terrace is a favourite with guests in the summer although the pool is open almost all year round. Nearby is an ecological orchard with almond and olive trees, main patios, gardens and two ancient threshing floors for grain.

In the evening guests are welcome to take a stroll around the grounds, along the well-lit paths.

Food & beverage

We offer a traditional rustic style dining room that comfortably seats 45 in a relaxed and exclusive atmosphere.

Breakfast is served in the dining room and takes the form of a self service buffet. We offer fresh orange juice, fruits, cheese, sausage meats, locally produced honey, yoghurt and bread baked in a traditional wood-burning oven. Fresh coffee and tea are served alongside.

For those touring the natural park and the locality our picnic lunches are extremely convenient. Those who stay on the estate during the day are welcome to visit our bar which is located in the lounge for the serving of drinks and snacks.

The lounge was originally a 19th century cowshed constructed with stone-work walls and brick arches which have been converted into interesting architectural features. The lounge is heated in the winter by a large open log fire which makes it a very cosy place to spend a winter's evening.

We nightly serve dinners to order. Simply advise the reception of your requirements in advance.

Typical local food

All the food served in the dining room is 'traditional local home cooking'. Some of the produce is actually grown on the farm such as free range eggs, organic olives and almonds. We only use the best local 'virgin extra' olive oil.

We will attempt to accommodate those with special dietary needs, if advised in advance.

Room information

We offer 14 double rooms all with en-suite bathroom. 9 are on the ground floor and face the main patio. These rooms also have an entrance hall and a private terrace which looks out over the estate. One is specially adapted for disabled needs.

The rooms are decorated in the traditional rustic style utilising natural and locally crafted materials. There is central heating in all the rooms. A large comfortable lounge is at the disposal of guests for reading or relaxing. Our library is well stocked with tourist information (reading material, maps, brochures, etc.). Our reception will be happy to advise you on local amenities and places of interest.

10 family rooms with lounges have been constructed from the original stable. They feature a large room with double bed and en suite bathroom. Upstairs there are two single beds. Each apartment has its own terrace which looks out on to the estate.

Area information

From the farmhouse you can admire the estate in the valley of the river 'Arroyo Aguila'. The estate occupies the land for almost as far as the eye can see.

As there is no road through the valley, the tranquillity is impressive. It is almost like being in a 'lost world'.

El Horcajo offers the opportunity for those who wish to follow the walks and trails through the estate.

For those wishing to explore a little further afield, El Horcajo can advise on routes through the splendid sites of the Natural Park. Full and half-day horse riding excursions are organised on request.

Water sport facilities are available at the Zahara Lake, just 15 minutes from the farm

Travel information

From Ronda: direction Sevilla-Grazalema. After 17 Km turn left to Grazalema. After 1,8 Km go straight on for 3,3 Km until the private entrance of the Cortijo.

From Sevilla: direction Utrera-Algodonales. Close to Algodonales take direction to Ronda. After 17.8 Km (A-374) turn on the right to Grazalema. After 1,8 Km go straight on for 3,3 Km until the private entrance of the Cortijo.
