Illmitz is a great location for visiting the Neusiedler See National Park. It has a good choice of restaurants; our hotel (Hotel Post) did evening meals Thu-Sun, so we had a chance to try other restaurants on oher evenings (Heuriger Holzhammer Pusztascheune Illmitz, Antonios Hof). Before leaving we used the web site https://www.birdingplaces.eu/ which had good information on places to visit and what we might expect to see. The hotel itself also had a good booklet on local places to visit and wildlife and we bought an English language version. I was in Illmitz for a wedding which coincided with the...
I was in Illmitz for a wedding which coincided with the annual festival of Martini Lober. This meant there was a lot of wine and schnapps tasting in the various wine cellars. People were super friendly! I did hear that the village/town gets very quiet until the summer, when things pick up again given its proximity to Austria’s largest lake, Neusiedl See.

A small town near the National park, perfect for relaxed holidays if you like nature, bicycling or just walking around. Many vineyards and plenty of winemakers, good food and excellent ice cream parlour.

The staff were all very friendly and took the time to talk to us, what our interests were and to get to know us as people. It was a very relaxed area and it was nice to be able to eat in the bar alongside local people. Evening meals were very good traditional fare.PeterUnited Kingdom

The location is roughly 10-15 minutes walking from the center of Illmitz.
