York Minster Cathedral
All piercing spires and vaulted ceilings, York Minster is a masterpiece of Gothic architecture. The most important Anglican church outside London, this ancient cathedral dates back to the 12th century and houses some of the world’s finest medieval stained glass. While adults gaze in awe at its airy interior, youngsters can have fun hunting for the gargoyles that grace the façade.

Get there for one of the tours, we were lucky as we got there just as one was starting. It lasted for an hour and was really interesting. Also one of the tips was to go to the basement for the museum.

Incredible!
Incredible! Magnificent structure of Peace and History which welcomed people of all faiths and none. Entrance fee circa £12.50 - good value and helps maintain the history of York for future generations. Your receipt/entrance ticket is also reusable for entry several times for a year which is very helpful as there is so much to see and learn - and cannot be totally absorbed in the space of a quick visit. Packed with interesting historical facts - suitable for Adults and children. Helpful & informative Guides/Stewards. Beautiful stained-glass windows; scheduled services welcome visitors. There are many opportunities to sit quietly in some of the small chapels - Peaceful and contemplative. A must see!

Absolutely devoid of any feeling of God.
Absolutely devoid of any feeling of God.
Stained glass not glorious like other places.
Lots of bishops glorifying themselves in expensive tombs.
First place I had no wish to light a candle to a loved one.
Not worth the £12 do the Jorvik ride instead

This is a magnificent building.
This is a magnificent building. Take your time going through it to admire the beautiful forms of the building, the variety of designs in the windows, on the walls, even in some of the pillars that support the roof. There are enormous windows at the east (altar) end that are worth special attention. The style of the building is called Gothic, not because it was built by Goths, but because of a historical error. It is elegant and refined, not at all like what people think of in relation to Goths today.

Make sure to visit the exhibition in the undercroft, as well as the crypt. It is easy to miss the entrance to the undercroft in the north transept but the exhibition is fascinating with the current building superimposed on a previous church and the central building of the Roman fort. You can see elements of the buildings around you once you know what you are looking at.

Unmissable for anyone, a wonderful Cathedral.
Unmissable for anyone, a wonderful Cathedral. Must be seen inside, because the glasses are quite unique and can't be appreciated from outside, as well as the stunning structure. The Tower is not included in the Minster ticket and I believe it is worth a visit, although I was unable to do it because it was sold out.

Really enjoyed our stay with family, only a few minutes walk into the centre of York. It felt like a home from home. Rooms were spacious, modern & had everything we needed. Great social space to catch up instead of separate hotel rooms. York minster can be seen from the balcony & it’s lit up in the evenings which was lovely! Great there was secure parking, there’s a lift from car park to 3rd floor.
Lovely apartment, immaculate, well appointed and centrally located with an outdoor space. A few minutes walk from the Shambles/York Minster and only a 15 min walk from the railway station. Friendly and very helpful staff at reception.
This is why I stay here 5/6nights around 3times a year….a real home from home
Hotel location was excellent, looked out onto York City walls and we could also see York Minster. A very short walk into the city centre. The breakfast was superb, very tasty it’s been a long time since I’ve enjoyed breakfast in a hotel so much. Staff were brilliant also.
The location is great, just around the corner from the York Minster. Breakfast at the hotel is very good. We also ate dinner at the hotel one of the nights, and the food was very good. Above all I have to mention the staff, they were all so friendly and helpful. Especially the lady who was in charge of the breakfast service when we visited.
The property was right in the centre of York, just a few minutes walk to the city walls and York Minster. It was so great having a parking space (which was safely tucked away in a gated parking area adjacent to the property). The apartment was modern, spacious and spotlessly clean and there was great communication from the host throughout,Caroline even left a lovely welcome hamper for us.
The location of the hotel was really good, although close to main road and a little noisy from that. The staff were really friendly and helpful in all areas. Our room was on the top floor and very spacious, with a great view of York Minster. The beds were comfy. The spa was nice and the treatment we had was good. The gym which my granddaughter used was also very good.
Excellent helpful host. Lovely apartment situated a few minutes walk from everything on offer in York - (York Minster was absolutely amazing). Good local restaurants, pubs and Tesco/Sainsburys 'Locals'. Car parking (which came free with the apartment), was literally a few yards from the apartment.
David the General Manager was very helpfull and welcoming, as were the staff. The hotel is located in an area of small shops and literally right next to York Minster. The food in the restaurant is copius, imaginative and well presented. This is not a smart hotel, but it is cosy, homely, and clean.
The location of this hotel is excellent. A few strides away from York Minster and all the lovely shops and eateries. The double room facing the front was perfect. Great view, lovely furnishings and very clean.

York Minster and the crypt with it's Roman history and the story of how they are saving the Minster from sinking and cracking further. The Yorkshire Museum with its different exhibits ranging from Richard III, the Romans and Medieval times to extinct animals of the world. Also the museum gardens are worth wandering around.
