If you arrive empty handed you can purchase basic food items. Very quiet place.

Moleiro de Bacal is a lovely country home located just outside of Braganca. Maria Jose is the most gracious hostess. Our room was huge with a spacious terrace outside of our bedroom where you can sit in the shade and enjoy the afternoon breeze. Maria Jose will schedule your homecooked breakfast at the time you wish - huge portions of scrambled eggs, bacon, fresh orange juice, fresh fruit, bread, coffee and her homemade jams. We were within a 15 to 20 minute drive of the modern city of Braganca which we enjoyed exploring the fort and the Museum of Masks. One evening we had the most delicious wild game dinner at the Restaurante Solar Braganca in town. We also drove up to the tiny village of Rio de Onor one afternoon and the village of Montesinho on another day. So quiet and relaxing. We highly recommend staying with Maria Jose in her beautiful country home.

Home cooked dinner is made with very local ingredients and excellent. The house itself is restored with respect for the authenticity. It has a lovely outdoor area overgrown with vines. It's exactly what you want when traveling to a rather remote village in the mountains.

Loved the beautiful river & the these old buildings. The owner gave us some suggestions about the walking tracks & etc. Now I feel I have to study Portuguese & want to retire there.
