I liked the old grandeur of this iconic building, lovely style of the large public lounges and restaurants and the spacious bedrooms. The bedrooms still had their original features including a big marble wash basin incorporated into the bedroom fixtures, and lots of original mirrors. The corridors still had their original marble panels lining the walls.
I found on first impression the hotel corridors and bedrooms were very shabby. Although I loved all the original features, the carpets were very threadbare and worn and the paintwork chipped. An air of neglect. The bed was a cheap slightly rickety wooden bed. When we arrived it was actually in pieces on the floor and two carpenters were trying to mend it!! The bathroom was nice and warm but cramped and unremarkable. All the carpets in the corridors really needed replacing.
location near lime street station
Value for money, centre of town easy accessible for shopping.
Needs up dating. Cracked sink in bathroom .
Rooms were clean and beds were very comfy. Very quiet hotel despite being right in city centre. We enjoyed using the pool.
Breakfast time was only from 7am and one of our party had to leave before then due to work commitments so he didn't get any breakfast at all - we even asked if he could just have a croissant and a glass of juice but the reply was just a 'no'
The entrance, reception area, beautiful old grandeur. Sense of history of the building. Period features.
Dreadful music in beautiful ballroom reception area. Cheap leather furniture in this area. Bathroom smelly and felt unclean. Carpet in bedroom, mirrors, chandeliers and bedroom units dirty. Outside bedroom window, rubbish lying on the roof. Staff disinterested. Place felt tacky and a feeling that this grand building was not getting the respect and upkeep it deserved.
Nice big bedroom
Only 2 lifts for whole hotel
Decor old fashioned
Staff curt and unfriendly
Breakfast way too expensive
Too many smokers crowding the doorway . Get rid of revolving door , it's dangerous !
After moving to new room stay was quite pleasant.
First room offering was poor. On 5th floor right beside lift machinery. Had to move!
the staff were pleasant.
the room was clean but a bit shabby.
the hotel is overdue a refurbishment as it's a bit outdated
The foyer, that's where the good stuff ends
Beds, bathroom, food (particularly bad), facilities (no iron or trouser press in room).
Beautiful architecture. Art deco features. Stunning lighting and sweeping staircases.
The food could be improved.
