Skeabost Country House Hotel ‘A Bespoke Hotel’ 3 stars

Please do not stay at this hotel. We had a really terrible time. For £79 per night we had a cold room with just a wall heater that buzzed continuously, weak Wi-Fi (even in shared areas), a fuzzy TV... all of which was tolerable given we were having such a great holiday to that point... but then the food poisoning! On the food poisoning, we stayed 3 days / 2 nights and didn't eat anywhere else. In late March, no where else was open in Portree yet so we ate in the Skeabost restaurant the first night - Wednesday (served mussels with broken shells, that we told the waitress about, and dry & hard pork belly), breakfast there too the next day, then in the Skeabost bar the second night (having been unimpressed with the food the first night but tried and failed to find anywhere else). My partner started vomiting, bad stomach cramps etc on the last day - Friday. If I'd received a sincere apology for my partner from the hotel and hadn't still been forced to pay for the food despite the Skeabost having been our only source of food from Wednesday evening until Friday then perhaps I'd put this down to an unfortunate mistake on their part. However, the very upsetting attitude of and how I was treated by a particular Assistant Manager (the one of duty Friday afternoon whose name I have) and who I had the misfortune of speaking with as my partner was too ill to speak for himself, means I'll be pursuing this further in any way I can. I've provided very positive reviews for all other B&Bs we stayed at (deservedly so!) and whilst I am always reluctant to speak negatively this was beyond terrible and the reaction of this assistant manager made it more of an injustice. (Although, to note, another member of staff - Elizabeth on Reception - couldn't have been more friendly and helpful at all times). As I say, the hotel forced us to pay for most of the food eaten (!

It is in a beautiful location and its a wonderful inside, very olde world feel, we had a garden room that opens onto the grounds with beautiful view if the local river that runs past the hotel. Staff were great too.

Nothing, it's the perfect choice.

The place, staff, food and the comforts of the lounges. Very homely and welcoming.

The bathroom needs upgrading. Shower temperature nob fell off. Just very old fashioned and well worn. All the fires accept the one in the little bar had gone out. It's not that it was cold its just nice to sit in front of one.
