Lovely cats in the hostel :)
In general the hostel did not leave us with the best impression. As the hostel is located in a very hard place to find, there were completely no signs for directions (a lot of hotels/hostels did have, but not this one). So to find this hostel at night is nearly impossible. We booked "Family Room with Bathroom" and in the description towels were said to be included, but on a arrival we discovered that we need to pay extra money to get one. Breakfast. As advertised, breakfast is included in the room price, but it is as basic as it can be - the cheapest cornflakes and a piece of toasted bread. If you want something more, again you have to pay. The car park. One evening we got a space, the following evening when we tried to park the car the owner of the hostel asked us to park outside. When we pointed to an available space, he said it was reserved for a "big BMW". When we pointed to other space that was available, he said it was also reserved. So I guess the parking space is somehow "reserved" by the car brand or friendship status. Not nice. The rooms are as basic as they can be (as expected with a hostel), but there were small basic things that were not there- like having a toilet without a lid, and no curtain on the door so it was possible for people to see you from outside while you are in the bathroom! The worst part was they turned off the heating in the 'drying room' where you put your hiking stuff, so when we returned in the morning all our things were still wet, and we had to hike in wet boots and clothing!! All in all, it felt like a hostel charging hotel prices, and giving only the bare minimum to its guests. Would not recommend- the YHA hostels are far better.
Very friendly Atmosphere. Homely views to die for.
The unlit roads on the way to Hostel not able to walk out after a meal in the evening due to poor lighting.
The general location and cosy feel. Very friendly family and helpful. Great value for money
Lovely staff and cuteeee cat
We had a large well appointed room near all wash facilities. The whole building has been refurbished to a good standard with good food and a bar. A treat to stay at. Drying room excellent.
Brilliantly relaxing atmosphere created in an excellent facility by staff who really care about what they do. A bolt hole to escape all the pressure and it's central Lakes position makes accessing of the majority of the hills straight forward.
Thank you so much for making me a meal even though I was very late and the chef was about to go home! Nice place with a nice atmosphere.
I know its been said before but you REALLY need a sign on the path that joins the Coast to Coast walk!
No TV in the dorm. Meant we had to play board games which was great!!
Doors bang loudly. Inconsiderate guests more than anything else.
Set in a beautiful area. The whole experience of staying in a hostel was new to me, the breakfast was good, the room was basic but functional and did the job perfectly for me and 3 children. to explore the lake district. The younger two loved the bunk beds.
Personally, the bunk bed I slept in was very uncomfortable, probably due to the framework and base being metal and having no give. The lake land larger in the bar was dreadful. Apart from that no gripes. and would recommend.
Location, delicious/good variety of food options, very comfortable bed with a lovely view :) Owners very welcoming - lovely relaxed/family feel to the place, nothing was too much trouble
Not enough comfortable seating - the snug (as the name suggests) was very small and cramped when shared with members of a large group. Other seating had been provided elsewhere which helped but I appreciate that the building limits the options that are available.
