눉No bad experience but the washrooms could do with being cleaner.
눇The staff were very friendly and informative. The location is central and close to the train station as well as all amenities. The outback and cities around Sydney are easily accessible from the Highfield Hotel. Variety of foods available in the area.

눉The last night was a nightmare. I was rushing in and out of my room, and went in just for a few minutes to change my clothes, and I dashed out of my room, only then to realize that I had left my key in the room. The hotel has physical keys (not key cards) and you lock it from the inside, before closing the door. It was 11pm, and I decided to call the emergency number and that's when the nightmare really began. The night caretaker answered and was unfriendly, surly and just plain arrogant. I admitted that it was my error and if there was a solution, and he kept rambling on and on, "oh the owners live far away, and they are not going to drive down to open the office and drive an hour back". Fair enough. And I asked him if he had the key, and he said no. Why would the night caretaker whose sole job is to take care of issues after office hours, not have access to the office (where the spare keys are kept)? Then, he suggested he would call them and check. He called me back and said that there were 2 options; either I book another room and use one of the 3 or 4 code operated rooms (which did not require a physical key) or come back at 8am in the morning. Telling a paying guest, who is locked out of his room, to come back in the morning, just doesn't make any sense. And to be honest, I understood the situation, of course if I got another room, I would pay for it, because I'll be using another room anyway, but it was just the attitude of the guy that was just horrible. He kept talking down to me, and just made me feel bad, although I was apologizing profusely for troubling him. And when I made some suggestions, he cut me off, told me his father died, and that he had had a bad night, to which I felt genuinely sorry for, but this is YOUR job, and this is just NOT professional.
눇I stayed here for a few nights and then, I extended my stay for another night, and the first few nights were great. I talked with the staff, they were very friendly, I loved, loved, loved the location, there were stores nearby and it was a very lively neighborhood. The hotel is clean, the room I got was pretty okay, and I enjoyed the experience for the first few days, until the last night (to be very fair, I wrote a very positive review for the first few days of my stay, and you can scroll down and see that).

눉Bathrooms a bit small and not really anywhere to put clothes for getting in and out of a shower (I used my bag and hung that up which was fine)
눇Easy to get to trains, as that was our main mode of transport. Easy to walk places from it. Free breakfast was good as we were staying on a very tight budget.
