Given the luxurious nature of the Balmoral House, the breakfast, while decent, didn't quite match up. That said, the Postmaster's Bakery is less than a 5 minute walk away.

This was the splurge place for our trip. Based on the pictures and the previous reviews, I knew it would not disappoint. And it most certainly did not. Beautiful, clean and comfortable. There were times we did not want to leave the room! Nice location, in the city but just enough away. Very clean. Quiet. The Postmaster's Bakery is about a block away. Also, parking permits available for use - very nice!

Well located - we walked everywhere including Quidi Vidi and signal hill. As long as you are prepared for lots of hills in St John’s. Lots of options for breakfast Good price for the location Clean!

In short, nothing. For us it was a bit of a splurge, but you get what you pay for.

This is a very quiet and mature B&B. It is in an old house, probably built in the years after the Great Fire of 1892 in St. John's, and has been lovingly restored by David, who came to Newfoundland in the very early 1990's. He is very happy to discuss the history of the house and the marvelous restoration work that he has performed. Breakfast is in the dining room on the main floor and is very much a "help yourself" arrangement, which we found to be a very homey affect. The kitchen is open during the day, so you can help yourself to tea, coffee, etc at any time. The room that we had, #1, was on the second floor and looked directly over the harbour and out the Narrows (the entrance to St. John's harbour). The room is big, with a very comfortable double bed, and a sitting area - delightfully relaxing. The bathroom was a nice size with a stand-up shower that had very good pressure and temperature control. Balmoral is situated very close to downtown without being "downtown". It is an easy 10 minute walk to the restaurants, shops and sights of historic Duckworth and Water Streets. In a nutshell, we loved our stay in Balmoral. It easily rivals some of the very nice B&Bs that we were fortunate to have visited when we lived in northern Europe. Thanks David.

One-ply TP was off-putting. It didn’t suit this wonderful b&b to cut back on quality like that. We bought our own at a nearby pharmacy. This is picky, but the dried flower arrangements in our room needed dusting. Not a big fan of these anyway, for a bedroom.

The host, David, is there at breakfast and is a wealth of information. He’s friendly and easily available. In the room, I liked the detachable shower head in the bathroom, as well as the solid hook for hanging things on the back of the door - important details. The room (1) had a nice view of the harbour and the colourful houses. Good air conditioning/heat system if needed. Two chairs and a coffee table were very convenient. Everything was clean and well-maintained. Excellent street parking & guests are given a permit while staying there. Location is also excellent.

Located near the Cathedral, Balmoral House afforded a central location & gorgeous views; but like all of St John’s be ready to walk a couple steep hills to get to bustling Duckworth or Water Streets. Well worth it!

it was very clean with fresh breakfast available in the morning & a well stocked kitchenette for other hours. VERY comfortable & spacious room. Helpful, friendly and meticulous host.

There was really only one issue that we had, and it wasn't really a big deal, but the toilet paper was only 1-ply, We were staying there for 4 nights, so we went to the supermarket and picked up some 2-ply for our stay. That's it!

Ambiance and view, breakfast, location and wonderful hosts

Well kept with Victorian era ambiance. Beautiful view from our room of the harbour and Signal Hill. Modern air conditioning (quiet) for the warm afternoons. Within walking distance of downtown, the Rooms and a liquor store. Excellent hosts who were very friendly and joined us for morning breakfast. Good variety and good quality items available including eggs. Highly recommend this property.
