눉The hotel looks out on other buildings so there was no view and the rooms were dark.

눉No maps in English provided (or tourist brochures). In fact, we didn't see any at the airport either, or any tourist offices so take your own Lonely Planet or similar While there was a compendium in the room with some information, it was still unclear whether the hotel offered dinner in the dining room (they don't, it's room service) or when the lounge could be accessed (the lounge turned out to be the breakfast area-not much of a lounge) No grocery store in the area where we could buy fresh ingredients to make our own dinners. There were some small convenience stores and plenty of packaged junk food (all in wrappings) but nothing fresh anywhere-not even fresh milk. We eventually found some fruit north of this area but terrible quality. No western style restaurants in the area (however, a small selection on the room service list) The focus of breakfast was on Chinese food (noodles, rice, dumplings etc). Attempts at egg dishes (omelettes etc) and pastries didn't quite make the grade, fruit had no taste and the coffee (from a machine) was dreadful-but so was just about all coffee in China. However, given we couldn't get any fresh produce, some breakfast was better than none. Toiletries weren't replenished daily and we were only given two cups, wineglasses and plates which wasn't really enough. Also, a little wash powder for the washer would have been helpful. Inability of the staff to speak English. Most of the reception staff spoke reasonable English, but the rest of the staff spoke next to no English-even in the breakfast room. We found this incredible especially given the international standing the Marriott enjoys. Summary We considered the downsides part of being in a new country. I would definitely stay at the Imperial Mansions should we return to Beijing and thoroughly recommend it
눇Overall Superb. We loved our week long stay at the Imperial Mansions for many reasons. Firstly, the suites are huge! We not only had a spacious bedroom with a very comfortable king bed but an adjoining spa, shower with rainhead, separate loo, double washbasins and a TV in the mirror. There is also two large sitting areas, office desk, large TV, self contained kitchen, another toilet in the entry hall and a washer/dryer. It was refreshing to find so much space, especially in a city like Beijing. The décor was very tasteful and spotlessly clean. The décor of the hotel was superb and it was spotless everwhere. The staff were pleasant and reasonably helpful (when they spoke English! See note below) The location was brilliant-just around the corner from the Forbidden City and Wangfung Street-the main shopping area in Dongcheng. As the street directly outside the hotel is sectioned off from the general traffic, rooms overlooking the front and back would probably be best. Ours was facing one of the side streets and was overall quiet with only slight audible traffic noise on the public holiday but certainly not bothersome.
