눉The activities were expensive but the recommendation is take ur own snorkel and dont pay, same for the tour to go to the lagoon to watch the plancton
눇I loved the island, its an amazing place to go. If you want to be in a relaxed environment, sun, sea and a lot of nature, this is the perfect place. The staff was very friendly and the beds very comfortable. I recommend it 10/10 times. The snorkeling was fantastic in many places of the island

눉It was the birthday of the guy running our hostel so he wasn't about much to answer any questions we had. Paths to get to other parts of the island could do with a few sign posts (there were paths that forked off in two different directions which weren't on the map!) The check out process was a bit ridiculous - staff keep a tab of any drinks/food/activities you have during your stay then you pay just before you leave. But there's only one computer and some people were waiting for an hour just to check out. We ended up working out the price ourselves as the list the staff had didn't include everything we had. It would have been very easy to lie and not pay for certain things so the hostel really needs a new system!
눇The setting on Isla Grande was amazing!! When you step off the boat onto a little beach with pristine white sand, clear blue water, a small bar with cold beer, and hammocks among the palm trees, you instantly feel a sense of peace and relaxation! Saman hostel is just a minutes walk from the beach and is one house of maybe 10 in the complex. It's clean and comfortable, the kitchen is well stocked (no fridge though), and the dorms and bathrooms were cleaned daily. The staff were friendly and gave us a good introduction to the island when we first arrived. You can go snorkeling for COP$40,000 and do a bioluminescent algae lagoon tour for COP$25,000. ADVICE: buy groceries in Cartagena and take them with you (there's not much on the island and what is there is very expensive), there's only electricity in the hostel from 6pm-6am, and lastly bring strong mosquito repellent!!

눉The people at the reception though, were kind of rude sometimes and sometimes after asking for something (e.g; an extra night, booking yourself on the 12pm boat), they would just carry on with their other tasks without confirming it was done, or acknowledging you even. It was a minor thing, but annoying to stand there for a good 15 minutes not knowing if they were still doing it or not. The island is a hotbed for mosquitoes, I wanted to stay longer, but the mosquitoes are vicious despite spraying copious amounts of OFF. There was no signage to the different beaches on the island. Be prepared to get lost.
눇Diego, who took care of us at the Hostel was amazing and always helpful and kind. The beaches, especially those far away were amazing (Gent del Mar, Playa de Cocoterra, Playa de San Juan) The tours depended on the weather and so I missed the bioluminescent plankton. Not their fault, but gutted anyway.
