Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomHad to request a kettle to make tea in the room. Expected to have a room with a view of the old castle ruins however room view was pleasant enough. Quiet. Good-sized bathroom
Comfortable bedroom. Pleasant grounds for a relaxing walk. Good restaurant but limited selection and rather expensive wines. Friendly service.

FranceWe had a water leak in our rooms during all the night. Our belonings were damaged and the hotel have done nothing even if they knew the issue.
The location and the welcoming by the staff was great. The rooms are impressive. You can feel the old ambiance of the chateau.

United KingdomBar was hopeless. The waiter didn’t know how to mix a Martini. There was no ‘regular’ tonic for gin and tonic. The waiter concerned was rude and had a ‘couldn’t care less attitude.

United KingdomThis is not a 5 star hotel and is shabby in places and lacks attention to detail and high standard service
We are a family of 5 (3 kids 6, 5 and 2) on way to alps and stopped off in the chateaux for 1 night on way down. After reading quite a few negative reviews, I was concerned about what the hotel would be like. I would agree with the comments that this isn’t a 5 star hotel, so don’t book if that’s what you want. It’s a really beautiful hotel and wonderful surrounding with the old castle nearby to walk around. It is quirky and a bit Shabby in places but that all adds to the charm of it. The kids loved the indoor spa pool. We really enjoyed the food and kids had amazing chicken and chips. Breakfast was vast and you could order any style coffees and eggs. The staff were really helpful and lovely with kids (Even when our daughter managed to knock over all the drinks and break glasses) The room in attic was huge with two bedrooms and living area. You have to walk up stairs but that’s expected with a historic building. Overall we had a lovely stay and would recommend and go back again.

SwitzerlandWe’ve spent two nights in the castle and we had a great time. We loved the place as it’s packed with history. The staff were superb and they went the extra mile to please us. The spa is really exclusive, just for two people and the massage package was excellent. We’ll be back !

We were.last at Chateau de Fere 20 years ago and it was great to.be back. Very relaxed atmosphere whilst being professional at.the same time. Lovely terrace views and restaurant. We also used the pool which has been added since our last visit. There is also a spa which we didn't use. The ruins in the grounds are enchanting. Great to be back.

NetherlandsFood was overpriced. 21 euros for a pasta a la arrabiatta. 12 euros for a fruit salad. We had an unfortunate problem that the lock in our door broke (can happen) we were offered a larger room but that room had very old and dirty carpetting. The bath had jets the inside of which were full of grime and the stop didn’t work, so no bath. We got offered another upgrade which led us to a room where there was construction still being done before finally being offered the most luxurious room in the hotel. We make our way to the bath (important for our one year old) and it, too, was unclean. We also ran out of hot water. All in all disappointing. However this is a response to an incident
Nice location, nice grounds.
