Each review score is between 1–10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We're currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate "subscores" in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive info (e.g. emails, phone numbers, credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (i.e. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.

There was nothing that we didn’t like
We stayed in The Ashberry Guest House in Penrith on our way from Essex to the Isle of Arran, it was ideal to break up our journey. Phil was an excellent host, he was very friendly and helpful, giving us advice on where to go for dinner. I am a coeliac and Phil and his wife had very thoughtfully put gluten free biscuits in our room, they had also got gluten free muesli, bread and sausages for my breakfast. It is so appreciated when people make the extra effort. We would definitely stay here again 😊

Turning in to the property is easy to miss, but host was very helpful with great directions!

The host, Phil, couldn't do enough to help and made sure I had everything I needed to have a great stay. He even took the time during breakfast service (I had to leave early) to guide me safely out of the car park as I reversed. Bed was very comfortable, breakfast was great, facilities were spotless, I had everything I needed, even a wee tray for my boots (great touch if you're on a walking holiday in the Lakes).

there is a full length mirror on the room entrance door but it would be more convenience if there is one could be one on the wardrobe door.
the house was well laid out with spacious hall and staircase/well. The room is nice and clean, quiet and within a walking distance to the main shops and eateries. The towels are large and luxurious but these can be smaller to save on washing cost and water (for environmental reason). The host is very attentive.

Nothing and I am critical.
Decent sized room with all facilities. Whole property very clean and everything worked as it should. Excellent selection for breakfast and very good quality. Our hosts were friendly and gave good advice for local restaurants and shopping.

Hosts were really friendly and welcoming. Nothing was too much trouble. Our room, as well as the entire place, was absolutely spotless. Faultless breakfast with plenty of choice. Will definitely be returning when next in Penrith.

There was nt anything not to like.
Welcoming hosts despite booking that evening, 5 minutes before our arrival. Comfortable clean room/bed, great shower. Good breakfast, fab poached egg!! Given advice on where to eat that evening. On edge of town centre for shops, restaurants, transport etc. Highly recommend.

Only thing was would have liked to park up earlier but owner allowed us in a couple of hours early but really wasn’t a big deal.
Location was perfect, it was the owners that made this stay fantastic they couldn’t have been nicer, the breakfast was so fresh and good quality perfectly cooked I can honestly say the best breakfast I have had staying at hotels, bandb or guest house .

My only gripe and it is an exceedingly small one would be that I wish I had brought my own hair dryer. There is one provided but it is attached and not as powerful as I am used to. This did not in any way detract from my superb stay.
Our hosts went over and above to make us feel welcome. We had mentioned before our stay our dietary requirements and we could not have been better accommodated. They were knowledgeable of the area and gave us some lovely suggestions of places to visit. Our room and communal areas were pleasantly decorated, immaculate and warm. The location is ideal with all amenities within walking distance not to mention a short drive to The Lakes. I would definitely stay here again.
