The interiors were in need of tlc, grubby carpet in room, cracked & chipped plaster, side of wardrobe had splashes of either tea or coffee splashed on it, no hot water despite running tap for 3-4 mins, noise from 6am of loud talking and banging around either from another room or staff. Table top ironing board had nowhere to be sited other than on the grubby carpet.

The location and that it is dog friendly.

No ventilation in the swimming pool. Dog's hair everywhere in the room, which wasn't perfect for someone who is allergic. Decor refreshed but a bit dated.

Said hello to cleaning staff both days and got ignored on all occassions. They looked fed up and did not even smile. Breakfast in the adjoining pub was okay but full cooked breakfast only offered one sausage, one bacon, one egg, one tomato and one black pudding. We had to ask for plates and cups as went in at 9am and all had been used. As it is a very old pub floor boards very noisy which woke my wife up when i made trips to the loo in the night. Spoke to receptionist who said "we get that complaint quite a lot"

Location fantastic. Friendly reception staff and staff in the adjoining pub. Very dog friendly !

In our room we could hear the trains every 10 mins right up to midnight. The dinner service was an hours wait and I think the food was overpriced for the quality. Breakfast was also very disorganised. We had a long wait, the food was cold and they ran out of several items at the self service bit.

The location is ideal. Staff are friendly and helpful.

I paid for a deluxe room which I didn't feel it was at all, the room was very small with no fridge and the TV was tiny. I have stayed at low budget hotels and the rooms have been half the price and larger and nicer.

The hotel is lovely, our room was very clean and staff were nice and friendly.

The restaurant next door is very average, decor isn't nice, table for breakfast was unclean and breakfast buffet is unattended and looks stale and unkept. I liked the bar at the hotel though, it's a much nicer place to sit.

I read the bad reviews and was worried, but wanted a pool for the children and there weren't many options so I took a chance. I was pleasantly surprised, the hotel is very pretty. The room was pretty dated and basic, but the communal areas are cosy and lovely. It had a boutique country hotel vibe. Pool is a bit old and drab, but fine. Served a purpose! Overall we had a lovely time

Staff were efficient but I wouldn’t describe them as being particularly welcoming. Check in is totally inflexible at 3. Room was way too hot and the building, being old, is very noisy. We could hear a lot from neighbouring rooms.

The food at the pub was exceptional. It was the highlight of our trip

Although there were many dogs staying with their families in the hotel, the owners were banished to the bar area to eat if they wanted their dog with them. This area is cold as the outside door is continually opened and then not closed. Dogs are far less noisy and visible than young children. If kids are allowed in the main restaurant, why not dogs? I booked 2 deluxe doubles for us and a single friend. It says deluxe doubles are 24m2. Our friend’s was. Ours was probably the standard 18m2 but certainly no more than 20m2 with the best will in the world. Also, her room had a 5ft King bed. Ours had a 4’6” double! For 2 people and a dog!!! I haven’t slept in one of those in 30 or 40 years!!! Not what I expect from a “deluxe double”. The charming young man at reception knocked off 2 of the 3 night’s dog charges but these beds are letting the hotel down.

The staff are all lovely, the position is great if you have a car and a dog. The dog walks are fabulous. The food in the restaurant was generally good with a few things missing due to the festive period.

Stairways could be kept better, I.e hoovered , rooms need a bit of tlc, just a lick of paint here and there . The evening menu in the Drift pub seriously needs amending , virtually all burgers apart from steak or fish and chips!!!! Can’t imagine older people eating burgers , and specials is a constant steak and ale pie which isn’t even home made !! If keeping costs down pasta dishes, jacket potatoes, sausage and mash all easy and cheap . Staff seem to where many hats they pop up in all different locations including reception, bars and waiting on tables , although they do an amazing job fair play to them .

Beautiful location, staff always friendly and helpful, breakfast choice good . Lounges kept lovely and welcoming.

More remote than I thought (but more on my bad planning). Restaurant booking times were a little restrictive even thought the place was empty. Menu didn't seem to change the daily soup / pie for a week.

The room was clean but could do with a re-fresh. The bathroom especially looked tired. My bedroom was located on the landing and from 5:15 am there were people frequently passing on it. The staff were lovely and they even helped us with a take out breakfast as we checked out early.

Light above external sign lit up our room all night - maybe low level LED colour lighting instead or on a timer, a guest banging and shaking the main entrance door at 5.45 in the morning waking us up - not hotels fault but how inconsiderate. Walk to Drift restaurant when raining for breakfast

Our third stay here, not quite as good as the previous stays. Location is excellent for remoteness and quietness
