Bar being shut in the afternoon & no staff on site. Came back to hotel around 3pm and not open to get a refreshment from the bar or snack. Had to walk to the harp inn for a drink.

Clean and loved the original stone walls.

We really liked the property, but we would recommend you check the drawers in the room before handing the keys over as we found someone’s underwear in one of the bedside tables.

Convenient to Hay-on-Wye and Glasbury. Room was well appointed and a good size, Made to order breakfast that was tasty and a lot of options. There is a bar and restaurant but it wasn’t open the night we stayed there. Ample on site parking available

I understand that staff do not work around the clock but it did feel slightly eery that we didn't greet a member of staff until breakfast the following morning. Location is great if you have a car but if you want to book a taxi you need to book ahead otherwise you may not get into or out of Hay-on-Wye (the hotel is in Glasbury). The room was slightly small but provided everything necessary (bath, comfy bed, tea and coffee station).

We arrived in the afternoon. There were no staff to greet us but we were provided with a key and a letter to describe the hotel and facilities. The hotel was incredibly quiet, we went off-season and there were only two other rooms that were booked. It's not on a busy road, it's in a rural location which meant it was not noisy. The breakfast was amazing, great quality ingredients that came hot and a good sized portion. It's about a 5-minute drive from Hay-on-Wye.

Was closer to the main road than I expected. The grounds weren't quite as extensive as we'd hoped for wandering with the kids, we also got told off for wandering in the back part which is away from the main road, which was a shame, just as the kids were enjoying exploring. No music in the bar or restaurant, was super quiet when we were there so no atmosphere at all. Quite a few things were broken in our room. The armchair leg, the jacuzzi bath which the kids were gutted about. But it was very clean fairplay. They loved the bidet! Most staff were very friendly.

Once some confusion with our room was sorted, we loved our room. It was big enough for the kids to enjoy & not get too bored. A brilliantly sized bathroom with bath that was very handy. Lots of windows which is hard to come by in hotels these days, including in the bathroom. I would recommend ensuring you stay in the main building. Although the other barn had refurbished rooms, it didn't have the quirk or warmth of the main building. Really nice breakfast. Loved the ducks in the pond, kids loved them. The bar and lounge bit is brilliantly set up. Loadsa of toys for the kids and a really well set up bar. The whole place is thoughtfully designed & well finished. Close proximity to Hay.

Personal preference for the pancake and bacon - I like crispy bacon and maple syrup but it was served with think cut farm bacon (delicious on a full breakfast) and golden syrup. I would potentially offer the pancakes with fruit as an alternative

The setting was pleasant and quiet. The rooms were comfortable and cosy The bar area and communal space was lovely and well presented

We only stayed two nights and the bar and restaurant were closed on the first night due to illness. However, the bar did open on the 2nd night and it was warm and relaxing.

Breakfast was standard as expected. Cereal, fruit, yoghurts, juices etc, and obviously a selection of cooked alternatives.

Had to buy tea bags and milk incase stock in room not replenished for 2nd day, which it wasn’t. We do drink a lot of tea but the hot chocolate in the evening was lovely the first night and something we missed the second night. Small issue
