How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

Restaurant had very limited choice and several items on the small menu were unavailable what we did have was excellent.

The outside of the reception area looks a bit tired. The cosy room definitely had a “cosy” bathroom, the shower was so tiny my husband couch barely fit in. A larger guest wouldn’t be able to!

The hair dryer didn’t work.
Very clean and quiet, comfortable bed, smart tv in the room. The food was good and reasonably priced.

The bedrooms were very small with limited storage especially in the bathroom.
It was very local to the town, very comfortable and clean and the service was excellent.

We asked about eating at the hotel to be given a snack menu, and we asked if they did main meals. That's all they do... then we noticed that they do al carte meals on the app . Also, we asked about ghost excursions, and she didn't know anything about this even though this was on the board in reception. We did get a beautiful disabled room with no chair in the shower. When asked about this, we were told we would get a message or phone call on booking to ask if we needed a chair, which we never received, there needs to be a message in these rooms if needed a chair call 0
Location, breakfast, comfortable beds Some staff are very helpful Breakfast at the time we booked was menu style, which I thought was a very clean way to do breakfast and more personal. Staff had white gloves when serving food, which was a lovely touch, and all staff in restaurants were so friendly and professional.

was very convenient for our planned tour of York very short walk to the Roman walls and the Viking city very short walk to multiple resturaunts did not eat on site at all, were there 2 nights

The bedroom was really nice but away from the main building . There was a sloped driveway which made it a little difficult for me due to my physical disability
Breakfast was excellent. All ingredients were of a good quality.

It appears the toilet in our room was blocked for a few minutes but cleared itself so never thought anymore about it
The location was spot on and well within walking distance of places of interest. The breakfast was sufficient but lacking hash browns which are my favourite

For a great hotel with a brilliant location, the bar area was quiet, and so was rhe restaurant, It needed a bit of ambience. I know things have gone up in price, but a cheese board was very disappointing, especially the price of it. It was expensive but I guess City prices. All the staff are fantastic.
The location of the hotel is brilliant.

The breakfast was a bit slow, I think they forgot about us. I ordered avocado and poached egg and the avocado was mashed with lemon or something, I dindn’t like it, I was so looking forward to it and I didn’t like it. On the bright side my husband asked for more toast a couple of times and they gave us more.
They were very welcoming at reception. The room was cosy and clean and they put a kettle and they went the extra mile to put some oat milk in the fridge as I indicated I am lactose intolerant. The interior design of the whole place was really well done as well.

There was a wedding in the hotel - lovely to see everyone enjoying the celebration but with only one person behind the bar they seemed inexperienced with compounded the service one of the wedding party obviously worked for the hotel and jumped in to help
