Breakfast was very good and the service excellent In fact the owner and staff could not do enough to make us feel welcome and provided excellent service throughout our two night stay !

The bedrooms were a little tired, especially the bathroom, which was due an upgrade. We ate in the restaurant with guests and our experience in terms of the food we ate was not great. We probably should have complained. The meal was reasonable, but nobody on a table if four thought the food was good, It felt as though the chef was just using up whatever was left in terms of vegetables and the strange array of sauces did not work. It was a shame because the staff were very nice and worked very hard to make the evening nice.

The room was well appointed and clean. The bed was really comfortable. The staff were excellent and really tried to make you at ease and nothing was too much trouble.

A slightly run-down hotel, with little to recommend it if it's a stay for pleasure. The evening food was OK, sort of fine dining, but not quite there. Skip the scudo continental breakfast. Go for the full English if you're bothering.

The remarkably long walk to our room, otherwise nothing.

A very pleasant, well-run hotel, with experienced friendly staff. Our room was a bit smaller than some but was comfortable and adequate, with a super king bed and TWO armchairs, which you don’t get in many hotels. The restaurant was excellent for breakfast and dinner, with plenty of choice on the menu which changed daily, and a simple and very reasonable pricing system. One day we unexpectedly asked if we could have some sandwiches for lunch in the bar, and were given a choice a which included some lovely smoked salmon.

The room felt a little dated and tired. If it was freshened up, it would be a really nice stay.

Arrived late, friendly staff on reception. Showed me to my room. The room was spacious, and the shower was very good. Toiletries provided. Breakfast the next morning was amazing,friendly staff and really nice food.

Outside of the hotel at the back and side looking tired. Windows need cleaning outside. Toiletries need restocking when staying for 3 days as we were.

Excellent staff and food, great location in a quiet village. Bottled water in our room was a bonus.

Breakfast was a very small portion. Asked for scrambled egg. About 2 teaspoons of egg. ( 1 egg possibly) , half of 1 tomatoe. A miniture hash brown 1 inch long. No need to be so stingy. Cutting costs on breakfast. Dissapointing

Bedroom door latch lock without inside securing ‘snip’ or other; possibly a deliberate feature for safety in the event of fire evacuation from this atmospheric half-timbered building.

Excellent & generous breakfast in large carpeted half-timbered restaurant; not many customers around though I would imagine the acoustics would not be uncomfortable when the room is full thanks to noise absorbent furnishings. Spacious bedroom, comfortable sleigh bed, warm, bath with plastic bath mat, hot water. Sloping floor gave the place atmosphere, so I wouldn’t call it a downside. Easy car parking. Externally, pleasant outlook onto village green. Good centre for visits to Battle Abbey &c, Bodiam Castle &c, Hastings, and a bit further, Rye, Winchelsea, Newenden, Northiam (not yet in season for Great Dixter)

Tired bathroom with damage to the bath. Lack of shelving in the bathroom, dated bedroom furniture. The bar could do with a dusting.

Very accommodating staff, excellent breakfast and dinner, room basic and abit tired, but everything cantered for a couple of nights stay. Comfortable bed, and excellent shower water pressure. Excellently priced.
