How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews

Woukd have preferred a later dinner Had to eat at 6 pm -no flexibility.
Excellent breakfast in a lovely setting. Only one restaurant open so restricted dining options. Staff were very helpful. Very comfortable room. Food was excellent- if rather expensive.

Always feels a bit cold in the hotel. Towels looking old with hole in it. Transfer to racecourse at 30 per person, may be should be included with hotel rate.

Staff at the horse box brasserie were quite slow and service was patchy. The room for the money feels very dark and quite pokey (we did choose the cheapest option to be fair - but it’s still 300 a night)
Incredible property and location. Rich with history. Grounds were fantastic as dog owners.

Where do I start: 1: Upon arrival after a long journey and since my room wasn't ready, I would expect from a luxury hotel to offer welcome drinks or tea since it was cold. 2; Ordered lunch, and in all honesty, my son can do a better cheese sandwish. 3: When I went to my room, it was freezing, I called 4 times for someone to attend to my request, and they brought in a portable radiator 4: Sink does not drain at all 5: I was told to leave the lounge area as I'm not booked for the afternoon tea.
staff are super nice and gorgeous place but does need maintenance.

Some miscommunication with the spa team. We were told we could cancel a booked treatment up to two days in advance. I tried to cancel two days in advance but were not allowed to.
The location is incredible, the reception staff was very welcoming. So many incredible details! The bedroom was spacious as described and the bed was the most comfortable I've ever slept in.

Room 34 missing the door on the toilet. Not ideal but we only stayed 1 night so we did not complain.
Beautiful spacious room equipped with everything you need. Excellent food choices and compliments to the chef- excellent! The setting and surroundings are idyllic.

Room was cold and light came through the door, night light in the room didn’t seem to have a way to switch off.
Stunning building, in a perfect location for the Racecourse. Friendly staff and good meal in the Horsebox.

Nothing really springs to mind. The only small gripe is last year we walked to the racecourse and this year we took the curtesy car service which was fine. The cost was forty pounds per person which I thought was a little steep but its only a small point.
Lovely building and our room was great and very spacious. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Ellenborough Park need to pay attention to detail. For this calibre of hotel we would have expected that telephone calls to room service would be answered promptly rather than not at all. Breakfast service used very cheep paper napkins, where was the linen? Day Room cleaning and turndown service varied significantly from excellent to poor. Lack of consistency was an issue. Requests weren’t always met, mostly ignored. Wines definitely overpriced. Dog extra night charge - way over priced.

We loved it apart from one thing. It feels like it needs a deep deep clean
Incredible property that is worth staying at just for this reason. Food was very good, and staff were nice. We particularly liked the fact we were able to borrow walking boots and jackets

Catherine, who headed up the Spa was so lovely, her friendly and professional service made the visit for us, what an asset she is to the business. The rest of the staff were amazing, the people made this trip for us. The building is beautiful, set in a great location.
