To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We're currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate "subscores" in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money, and free Wifi. You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):

An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.

United KingdomWe found the stairs to our room a bit steep and there is no lift, so there may be a problem for people of limited mobility (mind you I have a new hip and new knee and climbed up and down without difficulty).
Our room was comfortable and clean but not very warm until we put the heating on. Absence of breakfast was a bonus as we could sleep in a little longer and get up in a relaxed fashion. Staff (owners) were very welcoming and helpful. Located near the city centre, railway station and buses up Shirley Road and High Street, we found several coffee shops and cafes where we could fill our bellies. Off-street car-parking was also valuable.

United KingdomThe property smelled damp on entry. No staff visible. No toilet roll - basics! Managed to find one staff member to replace it and were just given a roll, not put in the dispenser. Carpet on the bathroom floor, shower with no power, and rotten windows. Threat of extra charges if lights left on! Some strange pump or fan running in the early hours disturbed sleep. Zero staff input, very unwelcoming.
