How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.

noisy at times - reliant on night staff (excellent) to manage drunks in entering the main entrance lobby space - not sure why lobby wasn’t secure on the outer doors? Seemed an unnecessary risk for staff and guests. Menu a bit limited for veggies

We only had two nights. So not too much didn’t work for us.
Breakfast was good maybe more choice in fruit. Staff friendly & helpful. Location is fantastic

there was basically no wifi in the room, 4G was not working properly either. Apparently this is a more general feature for the old town though, not specific for this hotel

The beds are a bit small
The location is perfect and very central. The staff was very nice and professional. For the breakfast, there is plenty of choice from sweet to savory products.

We were staying on ground floor, just behind the breakfast area. As it was a Friday night, it was quite loud in the city, and in the morning as breakfast was being served. However, for the cost of the room and as we both had earplugs with us anyway, we were fine & slept without problem (and there was a sign to say the desk can provide these if you don’t have your own, but just to be aware for those who may be lighter sleepers and staying for longer!).
Perfect location for The Royal Mile and the Festival Theatre. Staff were all lovely & helpful. Room had everything we needed for a short stay. Easy access to the building with the key card.

The rainy, misty weather could have been better! However, this was not under your control and the warm hotel and delicious breakfast more than made up for this. Thank you.
Fantastic location in the heart of the old city of Edinburgh, the Royal Mile and the castle. There was a friendly welcome from the staff, the room was clean, warm and comfortable and the breakfast was superb. Thank you for a great visit.

The breakfast has limited options. Same old run of the mill breakfast. Same menu everyday. At least it was for 3 nights i stayed.
The property’s location is undoubtedly one of the best you can get. Smack in the middle of Edinburgh. Good front office staff and a decent bar.

Nothing. Maybe only the pancake machine went out of order!
Excellent location. Very clean and new. Very nice Breakfast with a very wide choice of food. We were able to leave the luggage after checkout. Nice international staff.

the bedding , the quilts were awful, they didn’t fit the covers, and they consequently twisted in the covers, making it a fight all night. the breakfast was atrocious who serves garlic mushrooms on a breakfast, the other hot items were of poor quality.

The bathroom had a weird smell. And the sheets seemed to be too small for the bed and didn’t stay on, but that was minor.
Location in Old Town is spectacular, in close walking distance to all the main attractions/sights and great spots to eat. Spacious room.
