Unfortunately the hotel is looking very tired, rooms had paint flaking off walls and stairs also whole place needs a bit of TLC.Room was not cleaned on first day, Cleaned cups but left dirty tea towel on table bed,bathroom not touched. Plates and used glasses left on tables most of the night, only cleared when people wanted to sit at tables. Left a night earlier than booked.

Good location, fairly good food. Staff friendly enough. But think they are use to place looking tired.

Property needs lot of decorating and repairs. Rain ingress in places ( dripping into a pot in reception) was particularly off putting as was flaking plastered walls on stairs etc. Toilet had button missing off cistern. Breakfast drinks were cold as water dispenser not kept boiling we couldn't brew tea so disappointed. Too many choices for breakfast as an extra, one price should cover breakfast to avoid confusion. Wifi did not work and TV never had reception. Annoying as we wanted to watch the Queens passing news.

The staff were exceptional from check-in to check-out everything from management to bar staff even the chef. Really went above and beyond to make our stay feel like we were really welcomed there... yes the building is in need of some renovation but the price for the room reflected that. The standard of food was brilliant. The veiw from the bedroom and pub garden was fantastic. Thanks Lord Nelson staff for making the end of our holiday a good one.

Appreciate its very hard economically, but a historic building like the Lord Nelson fully deserves refurbishment. Come on, Marstons(Brains)!!

Sofa bed was uncomfortable and lumpy. Toiletries insufficient and not enough cups provided in room, no glasses supplied. Some parts of the room and hotel in general needs some maintenance work.

Some redecoration in the communal areas required which didn’t directly affect us so no impact on our stay.

Perfect for what we needed. Family room with a beautiful view of the port. Lovely dinner on the first night with conveniently situated thriving bar area. Staff were very helpful and courteous. Would use this hotel again for sure.
