Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomOur room was very small for two people and a dog. Not the cleanest, the carpets didn't get hoovered at all during our 3 days there.
Beautiful location above Lake Windermere with great views. Very relaxed and friendly feel about it and they love having dogs there.

United KingdomUnfortunately the service at dinner was very slow on the second day, apparently due to a couple of staff being absent. Something that couldn't be helped, overall our stay was excellent
The setting and ambience of the hotel was lovely as expected. The staff were very friendly and helpful, I was grateful to have my case carried up to the bedroom for me. Enjoyed the breakfast, good choice and the evening meal, beautifully cooked. Disappointed the soup was the same on both days of our 2 day stay. The homemade ice cream was special.

United KingdomWe love the breakfasts! It’s our fourth stay but We were disappointed in our evening meal . Both our steaks were overcooked. We ordered medium rare and received 2 well done steaks. We lacked the courage to speak up about it Sunday evening .
Location… love to dog walk behind the property before breakfast

United KingdomTwo bars, one smaller in a bar area which was very under stocked on the Saturday night. The bar person had to keep leaving the bar to get mixers, glasses and spirits from the other bar in the dinning area. Customers were queued and waiting quite a while whilst the bar person was running between both bar areas. Would recommend that the smaller bar area was well stocked up on a Saturday afternoon, ready for pre dinner drinks on Saturday night!
Great location for both Windamere, Bowness, Ambleside and Grassmere. Very clean and staff friendly and accommodating. Although staff were covering several roles at one time.

United KingdomThere is nothing to dislike! For next time, we will request a room with a lake view - as the views are amazing.
What a gorgeous country house, from the ambling drive up the hill to the quirky fire place in reception, this is just beauty and homely. The welcome is warm and we were surprised by the meal we had in Arboreal - which was phenomenal.

United KingdomFood, evening meal was very dry and some of it was burnt, however the breakfast in the morning was excellent so overall for the price of the food cannot complain.
The hotel was well signed and easy to find, the location of the hotel is outstanding with views over looking Lake Windermere and lots of parking space. The hotel could do with a little more staff as there were 4 staff members covering the check-in, bar and restaurants and you had to press a bell for someone to come to serve you, however the staff that were on side site were all very helpful and made you welcome. Just feel it would be better to have someone at the front of house and the bar to welcome you instead of going into a room and having to wait for someone to come.

South AfricaFront on house person.
The carpets were very dated and need upgrading. Some of the floors had broken boards under the carpet. Front of house person wasn't very accommodating and helpful. She wasn't service oriented... offered little help with bags or doors etc. Not a good reflection.

United KingdomEarlier check-in time would have been nice. And, hilarious though it is, the out-of-tune Grand Piano (which sounds like a Cockney Music Hall Joanna, but even more discordant) could do with a bit of sorting. Although as I say, trying to get a tune out of it is quite fun for a minute or so before your ears start to bleed.
A good (or even great) hotel stay is made of many things; comfort, facilities, location, ambience, food...but all those elements can be ruined if the staff aren't up to the job. The staff here are exceptional; friendly without being in-your-face, quietly efficient, able to deliver. As we walked in there was a beautiful welcoming fire burning in the hallway hearth, which, on a rainy Cumbrian day was just what we needed. Then of course there's the location; up a hill, with a lovely view of Lake Windermere; perfectly placed for all excursions. Three minutes away is the Windermere Jetty Museum, which runs lake trips from March on vintage steamboats, and has a cafe with a fantastic view and great food too, so if you want a cup of tea or something more substantial on your travels, make that a date, too. Do book breakfast at the Merewood, as there's a great choice and we tried a few of the options, all of which were lovely. So as you can guess, this is a two-thumbs-up recommendation.
