Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomOur allotted room was disappointing maybe because we were only booked in to stay for one night. Had we been able to stay longer I would have asked for alternative accommodation.
Our dinner was superb and breakfast came up to expectation. Outlook on to the grounds was very inviting. Spa excellent.

United KingdomOnly thing I could say was the steep slippery walk down from the car park was challenging for me as I have restricted mobility. But husband did it after the first time, so that was ok And in otherwise suberb standard we thought the coffee at breakfast was only average, sorry! Oh and one thing more: DO NOT USE SAT NAV to find the place, it took us over hills and dales on single track mud tracks: incredibly stressful!!! Northcote Manor is literally on the A377, and coming from the east as we were, take M5 to Exeter, then A377 to the actual gates! maybe marginally longer but actually driveable....
The evening meal - oh my, it was wonderful! Definitely among the best we've had anywhere. Our room was lovely (Honeysuckle), the bed was huge, and the wet room/shower room was spectacular! The attention to detail was noticeable throughout, many thoughtful little additions that made us feel welcome. The staff were uniformly welcoming and friendly without being 'in your face'. Thank you for a lovely stay

United KingdomDid not agree with the £10 per night charge for our dog. Yes, bowls and treats were in the room but the charge was not necessary. The price of the evening meal at £55 per head was way over the top. Cheaper in London W1.
The breakfast was excellant. The fixed price dinner was fab, A nice comfortable room. Fantastic grounds for walking, with or without our dog.

United KingdomThe room (Ashreigney) was a bit shabby and dated for the price, and could do with a refurbishment. Having been told that we could have a walk-in shower I was disconcerted to find it was shower over bath, but the bath was quite low so it was manageable and we accepted the room. However, that was before we discovered what a terrible shower it was, variable temperature, hot and cold at the same time, linked to the taps and it only wanted to clean them not the person standing in the bath! When I tried to adjust the shower direction it fell on my head! We didn't complain, perhaps they would have moved us but the hotel seemed full, and it was only for two nights. But I hope the management read this as it really should be changed. I don't know what the other rooms were like, they may be refreshing on a rota so don't let this review put you off if you're looking for a quiet spa hotel in the depths of the country.
The hotel aims for the country house vibe and mostly succeeds. Perhaps trying just a bit too hard. Very rural and totally quiet, a delight of birdsong. Extensive grounds to explore. We didn't use the spa but others recommended it. Friendly helpful staff. Very comfortable bed. Exceptional dinner but there is no option to the 3-course fixed price menu. Well located for RHS Rosemoor, the coast (fabulour fish at the Sea Gate pub in Appledore) and Exmoor.

United KingdomWould like to have the option of a less formal evening meal. We don't always want 3 courses, preferring something more "snacky" in the evening.

United KingdomWe were a bit disappointed by the restaurant. The only dinner menu offered was fairly expensive - £55 for three courses - and wasn’t very impressive (spinach gritty, lamb a bit tough, liver parfait served with a tiny triangle of toast). We didn’t really want three courses, anyway, but there was no alternative as the bar/lounge meals stopped at 5.30. On our second night we drove 25 minutes to a village pub to eat.
The location was wonderful- peaceful, beautiful woodlands and views from our windows. We had very comfortable rooms with nicely equipped bathrooms and little extras like home-made shortbread in a tin and fresh fruit. Breakfast was delicious and the spa pool and jacuzzi were excellent. Special mention for the young staff who were welcoming and worked hard to make our stay as pleasant as possible.
