The ceiling height of the room (but that can't be helped with this historic hotel)- partner knocked his head during the night.

Having a drink in the library room in front of the roaring fire was lovely. Very helpful and friendly staff.

Fantastic and unique hotel, ideally located in Callander. Built in the 1600s and is very quirky inside and out. Staff were fantastic (especially Paula, apologies if misspelt). We ate in the potting shed and had breakfast and both were very good. Room was spacious, clean and very comfortable. They allow dogs as well which was a big plus. The grounds are scenic and spacious so lots of room for him.

The staff did their best but were thin on the ground. I believe the hotel is in the process of changing hands so hopefully the new owners will be able to bring in some more staff members. Everything else was wonderful though.

This is a lovely luxury hotel, our room was beautiful with a comfortable bed and good shower. Delicious dinner and breakfast too.

    Nothing!

The whole place is absolutely stunning and set in such a beautiful area, surprisingly close to the river too! We had both dinner and breakfast there and it was a real proper dining experience. The dinner wasn't cheap but the quality was up there with michelin star. I think it was supposed to be a 4 course meal but they gave us 2 surprise courses in the middle. Absolutely top class! Our breakfast was run by a wonderful lady from South Africa who was very attentive and lovely to chat to. An excellent representative of the quality staff at this establishment. The lounge areas were exactly what we were hoping for. Similar to the National Trust estates that we often visit. They had the fires going and we relaxed in the drawing rooms while having a few drinks. This is essentially what we came here for and it was an unforgettable experience. All the furniture has an authentic old feeling too. Exactly what we wanted. Thanks!

I've sometimes wished the library had a couple of reading lamps as the big lamps in there are a bit dim to read by.

Food was delicious, service exemplary, a treat as always.

Best hotel ever for linked cosy comfy lounges with open fires to luxuriate in country house elegance
    • Leisure trip
    • Couple
    • Suite
    • Stayed 2 nights

I stupidly did not book dinner before travelling, and was sorry that the main dining room was not open for our two day stay, though there were few people in residence, during the rainy stormy spell in late October, which may explain it. The alternative dining in the Potting Shed Bistro was really very good, and reasonably priced.

A very special hotel which is quite iconic. We loved it. Several absolutely lovely lounges with very comfortable sofas and armchairs, fires always lit, soft lighting, in the style of a country house. The charm of the place is that it is like staying as a guest in a lovely old country house, very comfortable and relaxed, very cosy and welcoming. I was imagining the pleasure of having a winter or even Christmas party for friends there. We stayed in a suite which was very spacious and clean. The bed was huge and very comfortable. It was October, and raining, but the room and the hotel, were lovely and warm. There was a separate sitting room with tv and spacious bathroom with bath and separate shower. The main restaurant was not open while we were there, but we dined in a lovely little bistro in the grounds, and had really excellent food, especially the lamb. The staff were super, friendly and efficient. Also our suite was dog friendly. We will return.
