Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomUnfortunately, there wasn't much soundproofing, and noises could be heard from the other rooms, resulting in little sleep for me personally.
A lovely period property. Friendly staff. Comfortable.

United KingdomFor some reason there is a window between the toilet and the bedroom which has no shade or frosted glass? It wasn't a real problem as I was staying alone, but I would very much not like to stay there with someone else!
Lovely space, very peaceful and homey. Tea facilities, internet, TV - honestly, full package.

United KingdomWe had no complaints.
The host at romneys was so lovely and welcoming. She showed us the stables where we were staying. She was so apologetic and empathetic when she explained that the restaurant could not squeeze us in on an early sitting as they were full. If you visit, book early!!! We would definitely return though as the little park is so ideal for little ones and we found the accommodation really comfortable.

United KingdomThere wasn't anything we didn't like, everything was as expected, although a shower head would have been helpful however I don't think the water pressure would allow for one. The bath took a while to run but you can use the tap to help wash hair. It is noisy, you can hear everything in the next rooms, I don't believe people were being overly noisy, just general walking around and talking, also a child was coughing all night and it sounded like they were in the same room as us almost. It is just the nature of the building that there is no soundproofing, I'd recommend taking ear plugs for a better sleep. I don't believe this could be improved without massively changing the features and decor, but good to know before you book. Overall we really enjoyed our stay and no problems whatsoever.
We stayed in snug one, two adults and a 6 year old. Lovely space, bigger than I expected. The sofa was very comfortable, so were the beds. Our daughter loved the bunk beds, big enough for adults too. Loved all the wood and rustic vibes, and the bathroom was lovely. Nice food in the adjoining pub, staff were lovely. The car park was great, plenty of space. All very clean. Towels were provided. Great location as a base for exploring further afield. Would recommend to others and happily book again! The price is a little high but I think everything is now, not many other places at the same standard for less money so it is probably priced about right in comparison to other places, for the times we are living in!!

United KingdomThe walls are extremely thin with very heavy, loud fire doors. We shared the building with a large family who occupied most of the other snug rooms. Were kept awake by them shouting, crying and slamming doors within their rooms and in the communal corridor until very late. Even when quiet, you can hear peoples conversations and movements in adjacent rooms.
The staff were helpful and very friendly. The pub below is lovely and the good is great. The room was clean and had great facilities. Good location for travelling to different parts of the lake district.

United KingdomThe only issue we had was with soundproofing. I think normally it would be ok but we were next to a family with a little child who screamed a lot.

United KingdomMy elderly mother slipped on a concrete step, split her head open and also broke a bone in her arm. I spoke to the manager at the time to express my concerns at the lack of handrail, the poorly lit steps and the lack of contrast on the step edging. My mother spent the evening in Kendal A&E. Obviously this put a dampener on our stay, Thankfully my mother is recovering well but her injuries could have been far worse.
All in all the accommodation was very good. The staff were friendly, the food was of a high standard and we would return, if certain recommendations were acted upon.....please see below the reasons for my negative score on facilities.
