Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1–10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We're currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate "subscores" in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.

By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United KingdomRoom was rather small. There was no wardrobe so we used the hooks on the back of the doors. The plug sockets were rather inaccessible and so we could not charge our mobile phones.
The staff were very courteous and efficient. We had a wonderful dinner and the breakfast was excellent. Very good value for money. The area was beautiful and near to where we needed to be the next day.

United KingdomThe room we stayed in was really small we stayed with our dog luckily she was a small dog but there was no room to even move round the bed. The carpet was very tired and unclean. The bathroom floor didn’t appear to have been cleaned from the previous guest. The shower was tired all peeling where the plug was. The bed was so uncomfortable and a very old mattress kept rolling into the middle. The rooms need some renovation and could just be cleaner.
The food was lovely we had a Sunday dinner and nice breakfast. The staff were friendly and welcoming. Some nice touches such as hand-wash, hand cream, shower gel, apple juice and complementary biscuits. All local produce. The pub was cosy with a log fire and rustic feel. We had stayed in Scotland for weekend so was just a stopover to break up the journey home so was good for what we needed.

United KingdomThere was nothing really that I didn't like. The room was a little tired and could do with a lick of paint, but it was clean and tidy. This did not take away from the comfort and cosiness of the room.
The food here is a really good standard and plentiful. Staff were very accomodating and service was impeccable. They are very dog friendly and the ale was lovely. Definitely good value for the money paid. The location was spot on for visiting areas of interest, and there are plenty of local walks .

United KingdomThe room needed some TLC but on talking to staff they are in process of doing them so I could see what their vision was. It was comfortable and bathroom just enormous. Will be back to see outcome!
Lovely team working there. Helpful and chatty. Great ambiance and on a wet evening warm and cosy all fires lit! Food excellent! Plenty of places to sit with a book or join in chat. As a single older traveller I felt very at ease.

United KingdomBreakfast was fab. But the main point is the staff were very friendly. Felt really looked after and welcomed. In a genuine, warm way. Also seemed to be a pub valued by locals and I value that. The communal pub rooms were gorgeous. Roomy and great fires.

We unfortunately got caught in a severe snowstorm. We had contact with the team at the Derby but weren't able to make it in time for check-in. We were able to make it by 3am, and when the hotel opened, we were welcomed in, accessed our room for a shower and refresh then headed down for a lovely breakfast. The staff were absolutely wonderful, welcoming and had been very concerned with our safety, which was lovely. Although we didn't stay the night, the hotel is clearly well appointed, clean, warm and comfortable and the staff are terrific. Highly recommended.

United KingdomUnfortunately Storm Debi hit on the second night we were there knocking out all electricity/power which meant no food could be served. Luckily we had food that we'd bought for a picnic the following day and so sat in our room using our mobile phones for lighting - the landlady had informed us that power could be out for up to 7 hours and she offered candles, extra blankets, hot water etc. They kindly filled our flask with hot water so could make a hot drink - plus gave me a complimentary pint! Obviously this was out of the control of the pub and was dealt with as best as they could with the limited facilities they had in the middle of nowhere!
Very friendly and accommodating staff at all times of day. Easy parking and access. Food was excellent - breakfast and dinners adapted to cater for dietary requirements (gluten free) without any fuss - all food served hot and generous portions. Toiletries in room were really lovely - went and bought some for Christmas gifts! Location was ideal for visiting Grange-over-Sands, Arnside, Kendal, Lancaster, Carnforth, RSPB Leighton Moss - all only short drives away which suited us as revisiting childhood haunts!

United KingdomNothing all good.
We have stayed at the Derby Arms on many occasions over time however had not been for a few years mainly owing to Covid and the fact that we had been visiting family in Australia. This visit was a last minute booking for one night only which proved to be an excellent choice. The pub had got new owners and staff who were lovely and extremely welcoming, the total feel of the place was fantastic. We had not been aware until our arrival that they were putting on a fireworks display and to see the way the staff dealt with the extra presence of customers was terrific, my goodness they all worked so hard to make people's evening special. Our room was clean and the bathroom spotless, the breakfast was amazing all in all a super stay. We'll done Derby Arms.

United KingdomThe bedroom and bathroom were quite tired - there were several months worth of cobwebs hanging above our bed. The rolltop bath looked amazing, but hadn't been cleaned from prior guests...
Really friendly staff, who were very helpful and went out of their way to sort stuff for us - we really appreciated that. I loved the pub, restaurant space and the decor/ furniture - don't change this. We were stopping off on the way up to North Scotland and this place worked well for us. Veggie breakfast was also worth a mention, nothing fancy, but hit the spot nicely.
