The location (steep gradients from both directions) were definitely not for the faint-hearted! The partition wall between our room and the neighbouring one was not as well sound-proofed as it might have been.

Excellent choice and standard of breakfast. Sue was careful to see that we had all we needed, and gave us good guidance on how to maximise our time in the area, where to eat etc. House and room were fitted out comfortably and restfully.

    Can't think of anything.

The room was lovely, really comfortable, and the breakfast was excellent. A word of warning though, the road up to the property is very steep, nothing that any car couldn't manage, but care is needed. All-in-all, we had a really enjoyable weekend, and if you are into walking, and have the time, then I recommend you do the 6.2 miles Cromford circular walk starting from the Gables (ask the host for the information sheet), because it's a stunning walk.

Nothing to dislike but there is a very steep road to reach the property - hence the fabulous views!

Beautiful location with spectacular views. Hosts were very welcoming with tea and cake on arrival. Lots of breakfast choices. Room was very comfortable (suite) with toiletries, towelling gowns, fridge with fresh milk (!), water, kettle and plenty of tea, coffee and hot chocolate

Everything was lovely. Only one piece of constructive criticism would be to adapt the description of the parking to include that it's a very steep hill and a small parking area. Not a problem as we were the only ones staying but I can see this being a little hairy with more than one car needing to park.

The welcome, room amenities and comfort, the view, and the breakfast were all excellent. Sue and John were lovely and attentive enough while also leaving us to enjoy coming in and out as we pleased. The room was well cleaned and supplied, and the bed was comfortable.

    Nothing!

Lovely cosy room with a large bed, had all the amenities we needed and having robes was a nice extra touch! Breakfast was delicious and plenty of choice, catered for my vegan husband too. Hosts were very friendly and welcoming - just what you want from a good B&B!

That booking.com has this as 650yd from Matlock train station and it is nowhere near.we had to walk into matlock and then get a taxi. The majority of taxis will not drive up the steep hill, on a night in town we tried 14 taxi firms with no luck so had to walk home. John thankfully gave us a lift to the train station when we left.

Everything about the gables is lovely 😍

The location of the property is high up in Starkholmes above Matlock, hence the great views. However access to the property is up a steep narrow lane. The local pub was either closed or not answering the phone during our stay. Plenty of places to eat in Matlock -easier to walk down than walk back up!

Beautiful views from the terrace and a very homely stay. Fabulous breakfast and relaxing and quiet. Lovely comfortable room and bathroom, warm and great shower.

Leaving so soon. It is a short, but steep drive to the property and carpark, but worth it.

Gem of find for us to finish our holiday. Pictures don't do it justice. We were greeted by our hostess with tea and cake !! Our hosts were lovely. The breakfast , first class. The fireworks in the village, were a bonus , viewed from the patio.

Nothing! It wasn't a dislike but just be aware that there is a steep hill to get to it - well worth the view though!

Great location. Lovely welcoming and attentive hosts. Very clean BnB, top quality place to stay. Great breakfast. Very helpful, friendly owners. Great facilities, including parking. Added unexpected bonus of having the perfect view of the firework display which happens every weekend in October for the Matlock Illuminations event.

Amazing hosts who went over and above to deliver great service. Really clean rooms, lots of extras like bath robes and fridge in room to make it more comfortable. Breakfast lovely. Quiet location up a very steep hill with the most amazing view.

Room a bit cramped, with no room for a chair... En suite shower tended to leave floor rather wet outside cubicle

Excellent breakfasts. Fantastic views, though we're guessing access could be a problem in winter!
