Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomVery noisy at night (luckily we had white noise on for the little one which helped!)

United KingdomThe breakfast was not great and a bit of a let down. Dry tasteless sausages. Kids boxes of cereals, poor selection of fruit and we had to ask for the milk and bread to be replenished as they had run out and no one seemed to be keeping an eye on supplies. There was rugby on the Saturday afternoon so we made our way to the bar to watch on the large TV but when we asked for it to be switched on there was sound but no picture, so no rugby.
Location was perfect for our visit. We were in Northallerton for a party and the hotel was our base. The room was ok, the deco was a little dated and tired but comfortable. The bathroom was the same and although clean there was quite a bit of hair and dust around the floor and skirting. There was private parking which was good and the reception staff were very friendly and helpful arranging a taxi for us to get to the the party.

United KingdomBreakfast wasn't great, I had a full breakfast, just wasn't as hoped. I actually paid less and had a better cooked breakfast the day before at the hospital canteen up the road. Evening food starter was very tasty, but the waitress who started my service, then disappeared and I had to flag down a passing member of staff if required. Also on leaving the staff member on the till when asking for my bill, got my meal wrong, then got my drinks wrong by saying 2.5 pints of coke as opposed to 2 3/4pt glasses.
The staff were very helpful and friendly. Building was interesting, well placed in the town and had a lot of facilities.

United KingdomUnfortunately I didn't have success linking to the hotel wifi - I suspect my room may have been too far from the router. I managed to link to a personal hotspot so wasn't too much of a problem on a short visit.
The room was quiet and comfortable. I had dinner in the bar - the menu was varied and included vegetarian options. The nut roast with apricot and goat's cheese and perfectly cooked seasonal vegetables was delicious. The location of the hotel is great - I was in town to do research at the county record office and it was very conveniently placed for that. Great to find the Everyman cinema a few minutes walk away - a modern building in the street behind the hotel so not impinging on the traditional feel of the main street.

United KingdomI hadn’t appreciated there would be live music playing close to my room but it didn’t go on too late. There were ear plugs available anyway!
Cosy, warm and clean. My third stay here and reception staff much friendlier this time. Location is very central and parking is easy. Liked having a bath as well as a shower.

United KingdomThe price of the room was a little on the high side at £90 room only. The net curtains were torn in places which created a poor impression on arrival. The lounge was pretty chilly throughout the day, with only one gas fire on low.
Breakfast was cooked to order, meeting exact customer requirements. Lunch and dinner were very good value, and plentiful. The team was well resourced both at reception, even late at night, and especially in the restaurant and lounges. Every member of staff was extremely welcoming, professional and had enthusiasm for their work - quite an exceptional thing in today's modern world.

United KingdomThe parking- machine wasn’t working, I bought two rooms one for me and my boyfriend and one for a friend upon my friends arrival she was given a slip to put in here car( as machine was broke) when I mentioned I didn’t get one they didn’t seem bothered risking me into getting a ticket( luckily I didn’t) service could have been better.
Good location for what we were there for

United KingdomMore personal than anything, but it wasn't clear where their parking was (it's at the back, and there is a sign, but there wasn't a clear "The Golden Lion" sign but a lot of italic). Also, the room itself had a bit of a dodgy shower which was not tall enough for a 6ft person (temp was controlled by the taps instead, but that's just me being daftly picky with expectations)
Staff was great! Restaurant food was pretty decent, no complaints. Checking in was real easy and not a typical faff you get from most hotels.
