Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomBedroom at first glance was lovely, huge room with separate dressing area and bathroom. Terrific view of the lake. A big problem for me was the bed was very high and I had trouble getting in (husband had to help, I’m 5’3”). Worse: once I was in the bed, I could see that the gap between the mattress and the side frame was full of dust and debris that I didn’t dare to look too closely at. The restaurant served food that was ok, well cooked and presented, but rather similar to what you’d get at a pub chain, while we had been expecting fine dining. Staff were nice and friendly and put a birthday card for my husband on the breakfast table.
Staff were friendly and helpful, but, (and it’s a small ‘but’) we felt that the dining room staff were somewhat too informal, we had expected a more upmarket sort of service. Enjoyable though.

First time stay here-we had visited Lake Menteith before and loved location. Hotel overlooking the beautiful lake, picnic tables and woodburning braxiers on grassy bank. Old building with features maintained to keep the character. Room upstairs was huge with stunning views from the windows. Evening meal and breakfast excellent with a great selection of whiskies. Comfy chairs and great relaxed atmosphere generated by staff who were very friendly and attentive. Brilliant place for a relaxing ovetnight stay to recharge the senses. Pricey but well worth it. We will definitely return. Thanks to all the staff.

United KingdomFor two years this long-established country hotel has been part of Karma. Almost no local staff with local knowledge remain. Most staff are very recent arrivals. Though willin and helpful, that detracts substantially from the point of hotels like this.
This is one of my favourite small hotels, in an unrivalled location. The whisky collection is awesome

United KingdomThe overnight stay was to celebrate my Wife's Birthday and reserved a particular room which we didn't get, which was very disappointing... The Bathroom in our room needed modernising/re-decoration. The bed was not particularly comfortable?

United KingdomWe wish we had booked longer!!
We received a warm welcome from Michelle at Reception. She made check in easy and showed us to our room. We were allocated the Menteith Suite. It must be one of the best rooms in the Hotel. There was an Anniversary card from the staff - a lovely gesture. The room is huge and the view is amazing. There is a door outside the room where there is a table and chairs and it will be lovely to sit there on a warm sunny day. The room was warm and very comfortable with a super king bed. At dinner there was a big choice on the Menu. The food was excellent- we had Scallops, trout fish cakes followed by Pheasant -highly recommended. Callum looked after us well and nothing was a bother for him. He was friendly and professional. We also enjoyed breakfast. There was a good choice and the food was great.

United KingdomShower was just a dribbler, there was no power whatsoever, barely able to rinse the soap off. Breakfast was a bit chaotic, buffet wasn’t replenished. (No ham, meats, cheese, salad). Despite arriving at 9.20 (breakfast served until 10am) we were refused any croissants or pastries, as by the time we asked it was 9.55. We were told other people had eaten them all and the chef wouldn’t bake any more. No decent breads. On the other hand our cooked breakfast dish was very nice.
Great location with lovely views. Comfortable bedroom. Nice meal. Staff very pleasant. Good value dinner/bed/breakfast package.

United KingdomThe subsidence in our bedroom added a quaint touch. The smell of bleached floors while we had our lovely breakfast was disappointing. The flavour of vinegar masking the taste of my poached eggs again was disappointing. I had phoned the hotel several days before arriving to say I had seen an offer to upgrade from bed and breakfast to dinner bed and breakfast and I was told this had been changed on our booking however we were still charged extra for dinner. The very nice receptionist did change this when I pointed it out although, again, this was disappointing. On several occasions there was a distinct lack of staff.
The location was why I chose it and, even on a rainy day, it was spectacular. The staff were friendly and helpful. The food was fantastic. Everywhere was very clean although possibly a bit tired.

United Kingdomas others have mentioned bathroom does need a refurb but all other decor was suitable - traditional style. There was a wedding on which meant we had to eat in the pub section which was a little cramped as the restaurant was booked out but otherwise no problems.
Beautiful location and views Food was fantastic. We booked the half board option and both breakfast and dinner were lovely. Good continental with cooked options Staff were lovely

the location is perfect for a peaceful break, you need a car because there is little there aside from the lake and fishing but for us to wake up to that view was perfection. good food and spotlessly clean, massive comfy bed and a private patio.
