Each review score is between 1–10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We're currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate "subscores" in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive info (e.g. emails, phone numbers, credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (i.e. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.

Immaculate and comfortable bedroom and bathroom, lovely quality toiletries and excellent selection of tea, coffee, hot chocolate and biscuits in our room. Snacks and fresh milk in the pantry was a nice touch. Samantha and her son were great hosts and the breakfasts were delicious and very quick!

We were on the second floor, when we booked ( a year in advance) this wasn't made clear. This however wasn't the current owner as I believe its recently changed hands.
Accomodation was excellent, had everything we needed to make our stay comfortable. Breakfast was faultless.

Couldn't fault anything
When we arrived we where really made welcome lus and Neil couldn't do enough for us,we loved the old manse we where really spoilt room spotless breakfast tasty and plentiful, loved the pantry brilliant touch ,location really good everything within walking distance definitely stay here again.

Size of room a little small when we got our luggage in. We should have requested 1st floor as there are stairs and I have bad knees.
Great breakfast. Lis and Neale were perfect hosts and had thought of everything we might need, including a snack room for guests should they get hungry. Highly recommend The Old Manse.

The breakfast was excellent, lots of choice and they catered for my wife who is gluten free, the location is a ten minute walk to town which was perfect , the rooms are comfy and there's lots of personal extra touches , lovely toiletries, drinks and snack area which are free, really great service

The shower cubicle was fine for us but perhaps would be a little confined for a taller person
The room was very spacious and comfortable. The breakfasts on offer were excellent and it was no problem to ask for adjustments to the menu.

Having to leave!!!
I could not find a fault, the place is excellent. Immaculate house, spacious and well presented rooms, free snacks and juices, amazing breakfast choice and good quality ingredients. Ideal location too. Well done Lis and Neale.

Shower wasn’t great, didn’t seem to work and pressure kept changing meaning sudden hot or cold water - the hosts did take a look but said they will have to call someone out. Hopefully a one off issue that future guests won’t need to worry about!
Location is great and the breakfast is exceptional - much better than we expected. Very friendly hosts, happy to help with any questions

The rooms were a good size, very clean, warm and comfortable with great attention to everything you might need during your stay. There was a wonderful choice of tasty cooked food at breakfast. It's a quiet location, but still only a 5 minute walk from the centre of Buxton. The hosts are helpful and attentive.

The front door was very difficult to open.
We received a warm welcome and found a lovely relaxed atmosphere at The Old Manse. Our every need had been catered for without asking, from dietary requirements to snacks and refreshments in the room. Our stay was made even better by our hosts friendliness and local knowledge, helping us to find walks and things to do throughout our visit. The food on offer at breakfast was outstanding too, setting us for a day of hiking.

The breakfast was superb. EV charging was most welcome, as there's next to nothing for EVs in Buxton itself. The hotel was within a reasonable walking distance of the town centre, only a few minutes and you're in the centre.

Bathroom needs better lighting, or a light over the mirror.
Very well run typical, comfortable British guesthouse. A great deal of care is given to guests' comfort and I was made very welcome. Breakfast choice surprisingly wide-ranging. My double room was comfortable, although of course the bathroom is a small cupboard in the corner (which could really do with some decent lighting as very gloomy) but hot water plentiful. Not too much noise from other rooms either, although someone's radio/TV was irritating in the morning. Very little, if any, noise from the street or cars and so slept well in the comfortable bed.

Lis and Neale made us feel welcome from the outset. The Old Manse is a beautiful building and great care has been taken to think about everything. The room was spotless and spacious. The bedding was pristine, a generous tea tray was provided and easy access to fresh milk. Our room was so comfortable. Breakfasts are superb with a varied choice and everything is fresh. We loved our stay.

the hill down to the town center at night was dark. Not the fault of the hosts but of the council.
the bed and pillows were comfortable. The breakfasts were of very good quality and the hosts were very welcoming.
