Rooms are tired and breakfast was cold. No hot water for tea, no side plates for toast. We had breakfast at 9.30 and they finish at 10 so obviously didn't want to cater for the late rises lol. Was good value just ashame about breakfast.

Great location, fantastic band on. Clean rooms and good linen.

Breakfast and evening meals all good and good beer on tap. Room and facilities when as expected. A good old proper pub in a good location.

Some reviews criticised the bathroom. Mine was a little dated/basic but it had everything I needed, it was clean and everything worked so I was happy. What I would say though that to get into my room (9 I think), I had to go through two doors. The internal light between the two doors seemed to be a proximity light that was triggered on the staircase or landing. Fine when you are returning to your room, but if you are leaving it in the evening, you will find yourself trying to lock your door in the dark until you go through the second door.

Great location within walking distance of all the highlights of central Whitby. WiFi worked really well. I received a warm welcome from the person who checked me in and I found all the staff friendly and helpful. The room was clean, comfortable and had plenty of refreshments. When you arrive you can park outside for 15 minutes to unload and you are given a car parking permit for on street parking on the hill behind the hotel. This parking permit was a real bonus! My top tip about this place - when you check in, you are given a key code for the back door. Although I only stayed for two nights, it was part of a longer trip so I had a large heavy bag plus some camera gear. I knew that whilst I would manage to get it up the stairs, it would be a bit of a struggle for me. This is an old building with a staircase that is narrow and has a turn in it. Very characterful but…. However, two buildings along (towards the bridge) is an alley called The Cragg. Once you have your key code, use this alley with heavy luggage. You still have some steps but they are wider and in two sets of four. Once in the hotel, you are now on the first floor and have cut out the first internal staircase. Obviously, you need to have obtained your room key first.

Neither the shower or the bathroom light worked, we were offered other accommodation which had obviously been lived in and not cleaned, so not impressed with that.

The electrics wouldn't pass healt and saftey. extension lead to kettle and tv drapped across the wall with no support or protection.

Breakfast was excellent. A little slow the first morning but a different cook apparently. A nice view from the room though i think in summer it would be restricted and noisy as there is a public balcony 6" from the window which would make the room like a goldfish bowl.
