Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomThe location was great in the historical centre of Wells, our room overlooked the green and had a beautiful view of the cathedral. The room was comfortable and tastefully decorated. Staff were pleasant and helpful with local knowledge. We didn't eat breakfast but did enjoy a lovely dinner in the restaurant.

United KingdomThere is no on-site parking, but the parking options advised were very helpful. If you time it right (i.e. between 8.00pm and 8.00am for 20 minutes), you can use the nearby layby for dropping off passengers or luggage.
The hotel location was right in the centre of Wells. It is a beautiful ancient building. The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. We were informed in advance that the flight of stairs to the second floor on which we were staying was very steep and it was a good workout to get up there! The bedroom itself had all we needed. Being at the front of the hotel, there was a lot of noise from the road but this is to be expected in the centre of the city. The breakfast was very tasty and plentiful. We had a lovely meal at the Rugantino restaurant and it really was authentic Italian food. The service was excellent too. I would definitely recommend this hotel.

United KingdomCould not have a proper shower due to sloping ceilings in the en-suite but not an issue as it was off-set by the view out of the window.
Great room overlooking the Cathedral Close but all a bit tight - not unexpected in a historic building. Evening meal in the Rugantino restaurant was quite expensive for what you got but very tasty.

United KingdomThe room is soon going to be refurnished and the hotel thanked us for our suggestions for improvement, for example more shelf space for toiletries in the bathroom, a hook for coats on the back of the door, and a large cushion for your back when sitting up in bed. A proper shower would have been plus in the en-suite, and they say they are also considering this as part of their upgrade. These were minor points and wouldn't stop us considering a return trip.
We had a good experience from the outset, being warmly welcomed and able to check in to our room ahead of time. The hotel sent useful information on the various public parking options in Wells and so their not having guest parking of their own was not a problem. We had the superior double with lovely views overlooking the green and the Cathedral. The food in the Rugantino restaurant was excellent. The building is old and full of character - expect to hear other guests on the creaky stairs.

GermanyLots of little decorative things needed doing in the room: bits of paintwork, filling in holes etc. Shame!
Very friendly and helpful staff. Located right in the middle of town, very nice restaurants close by - perfect. Historic building, with period features.

United StatesThe room was small but very adequately furnished with comfortable beds and quality linens. Our only comment would be lack of electric sockets in useful places but in an old building this is understandable.
I loved the ancient feel to the place. Although they have an old winding staircase it is well covered by beautiful brass banisters making it an easy climb even for 2 oldies with mobility issues.

Great location in the centre of Wells, right by the cathedral. Very little noise even though we were above restaurant/kitchen and they were fully booked. Very clean.

United KingdomI booked this hotel partly because of the Italian restaurant, which I discovered after booking was closed on the day we were there. The central heating went off overnight and during the morning, so despite the extra radiator we were cold. The bathroom, particularly the floor was freezing. We liked our room, but didn’t realise at first it was also the route to the fire escape for the hotel, which made us a little nervous. Had we realised sooner, we’d have taken the alternative offered. The mattress was the sort that rolls you towards the middle of the bed.
The location and view of the cathedral. Hearing the cathedral clock strike and the bells clearly. The building was quirky and had interesting features. The woman on reception was friendly and helpful and offered us another room if the one allocated on the top floor didn’t suit us. She had also thoughtfully plugged in an extra radiator because of the cold weather. We would stay again, which is the best recommendation for a hotel.

United KingdomThe bathroom was modern and excellent but the bedroom was a little tired and the drapes on the four poster a bit lacklustre. A few pictures and a freshen up wound lift the space. Saying that, we were very pleased overall.
