Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomStingy on supply of in room tea and coffee ie. 2 teabags and 4 little pots of milk for 2 people! I know we could ask for more but that is mean none the less. Couldn’t plug the sink in shower room for a wash. Only free flowing. Quality of tea and coffee in restaurant for breakfast etc not brilliant.
Nice room and comfy beds. Good food.

United KingdomIt is not a question of disliking. Because of the old building, there are different levels and stairs and a lift would nit be possible. There should be discussion when booking about how many stairs there are to a room.
The quirky, old building has been thoughtfully and elegantly modernised and upgraded. It is in a wonderful position but the sea and in fine weather, you can sit outside with a drink or a meal and enjoy the view.

United KingdomA bit on the pricey side, especially with the spa facilities being out of order due to renovations, and was woken by the hustle and bustle of the street outside very early in the morning.
Beautiful exterior, beach on your doorstep (quite literally) and a fantastic breakfast. They catered to my partner’s gluten free dietary requirements.

United KingdomCorridor floors has different levels, same carpet makes it look level- but for old people like me there needs to a colour change or hand rail etc. the incline is deceptive No ability to order a news paper, not everyone uses tic—too or social media. No central checking/ check out desk- all around a table with other customers standing around.
I know the hotel well, since renovation it is rather stark with no magazines, papers etc for those waiting to meet friends etc

United KingdomThe cost is a little high in my opinion. For the cost I would expect a fridge in the room and fresh milk. It was extremely hot in our room on the top floor and I think air conditioning is needed in the rooms. There also wasn’t a decent size dressing table which would have been useful for getting ready.
Beautiful property with comfortable rooms. The staff were extremely friendly and nothing was too much trouble. The restaurant staff were so attentive and made us feel so welcome and relaxed.

United KingdomBathroom was to small Bedroom noise was terrible at night an engine noise very loud. The EV parking using an impossible App at night in the rain has not been thought through and reception not having a clue about it didn’t help.

United KingdomRoom facilities, such as a small fridge, more fresh water (just one carafe of filtered water for two, per day) and more options for vegetarians. Not a problem for me but the limited room menu might be too limited for anyone staying for longer than two days. I don't know whether vegans are catered for or not but personally avoid food containing seed oils, preservatives and non-food elements.
We especially enjoyed the stylish surroundings, the staff, the ease of access to The Cooden Relais and our swanky room (The Cuckmere). The visit was to facilitate an eye operation for me at Bexhill Hospital. On crutches, and with a disabled leg, I had asked for a ground-floor room with two beds and easy access to reception, grounds and parking. We were blown out when Maria showed us our room. Quite simply, the Cuckmere is spacious and elegant. Wonderful for anyone in a wheelchair, not just for someone on crutches. Of note, this room offers a sizeable, outdoor trellised area with wooden furniture for summer use. Room service at the Cooden was invaluable. Attending a restaurant immediately before an operation or, indeed, right after an op could be tricky. Still, we had a generous, cooked breakfast in the sea-facing restaurant the morning after our arrival. Just as well; the wait at the hospital was about four hours! Cons: there was no fridge in the Cuckmere room so medicine requiring refrigeration had to be kept at reception and collected every four hours. Not so convenient. The walk-in shower was also a problem: I could find no useful instructions and there appeared nowhere to sit – safely - under the shower. So, I waited until I got home. Additionally, the central heating was too hot and it took the man among us quite a while to find out where to reduce the heat to something manageable. It was a particular concern for me the second night as overheating an eye after an operation could be disastrous. Maria, however, being a key member of the management and the reception team at the Cooden, was fantastic both before and after our stay. She made our visit as seamless as possible and her great charm remains with me as a takeaway. Summing -up, the changes to The Relais Cooden Beach since we last visited about 2017 are admirable. It is now a comfortable, stylish place to visit. Note, however, that cash payments are unacceptable.

FranceRoom on second floor, no lifts. Single room very small, facing the back with railway station, not good for very light sleeper, no dressing gown. Have been coming for many years, after refurbishment a bit soul less and corporate but efficient.
Fab and copious breakfast. Fantastic bedding, linen and towels. Very clean. The location cannot be beaten. Since all renovation done the carpark at the back is now accessible.
