The bar is also a pub for non-residents, which meant it was packed and noisy. The restaurant area was quieter but there was still a lot of noise from the bar.

The hotel is located in the centre of Colchester and is convenient for touristy things as well as shops/restaurants/bars etc. The rooms are comfortable, clean and to a good standard. The check-in staff were friendly and everything worked smoothly with our booking. The food in the restaurant was first-class and very reasonably priced. I don't usually like restaurants in hotels, but this was excellent.

The only comment I can make was the Chafing dishes do not always keep food hot enough so the breakfast was a little cold.

The property location was ideal and it felt comfortable and homely. Our first room was very cold as the heating system wasn’t working but an engineer came quickly to try to fix it. This wasn’t possible so we were moved without fuss to another room which as we entered had been warmed for our arrival.

The room got very cold as soon as the A/C was switched off. As it is above a pub you would expect a level of noise, however, besides that the windows do not do much in the way of keeping street noise and cold out.

The overall décor was very nice. Cleanliness was good.

The noise until 4am, then woken again at 6am with beer barrels being delivered.

Sadly rooms at the front do not have an extra layer of glazing, so it's very, very noisy. Beautiful hotel though, great location, nice breakfast and really nice staff

While the listings do mention access by stairs only, it should make clear how steep and how many stairs there are. I have an impaired foot and the stairs were very challenging. It is an old building so cannot be helped, and the lovely staff were kind and carried luggage up, but this definitely impacted the comfort of the stay. Bottled water in the room would have been appreciated.

The staff were just incredible. Kind, helpful and lovely people. Special mention to Joey who went above and beyond. The room was lovely - and thankfully quiet.

Car park round the back of the property so a little difficult with big cases on a cold rainy day to walk around to the front entrance a back closer entrance would have been great. Parking not included in room price .

Paying £9.50 for parking, strewn rubbish by the bins. The body and hair wash in the shower, make it clearer which one is which. Amount of time the rather miserable bar staff took to serve me. Felt like they think they were doing me a favour by serving me. The idea of booking a room then realising breakfast is not included and that’s extra .. £108 pound room .. no sir it’s £140 actually.. it’s a hotel room not a airline ticket.

Pretty sure I searched for accomodation with breakfast and parking included and picked The George based on this search. Both of these were additional charges which was disappointing.Not The George’s fault, just the filter on Booking.com

Customer service at check in and check out was excellent. The room for adults was huge (being the loft). It would have been great to have the second room close by but given the short notice of booking, it was pretty understandable that this could not have been met

I booked a Super King featured room for my husband’s birthday. We were given a room facing the high road and as we are light sleepers we asked the staff to change our room, which they promptly did. Unfortunately, the room they put us in was cold & the heating which is run by a unit kept switching off. As you can imagine this was quite frustrating. We cannot fault the staff or the hotel but this definitely had a negative impact on our stay.

This place is clearly refurbished. The decor and rooms are clean, comfortable and stylish. The staff are very kind and friendly.
