Bar and dining room a bit like wetherspoons like the hotel and this place are different entities. Really bad thing was dogs in dining area at dinner and breakfast

Cobwebs and dust on the skirting boards. Other than that, totally brilliant.

Well, nearly all of it is wonderful and comfortable…. But the ‘add-on’ bathroom in Brontë was hard to get warm and the driftwood look didn’t match the lovely comfortable room. I’m afraid I found the pillows hard and uncomfortable too.

The original features were lovingly incorporated into the up to date colours and decor. Also, the property is in a prime location and masses of history

Post-pandemic, it definitely needs a bit of tlc. A bit threadbare in parts. But maybe this just adds to the authenticity!

A return visit to the Royal. Love staying there because it’s a magical old place, virtually on the beach, with lots of history. Warm, pleasantly decorated room with Channel view, nice en suite, comfortable bed, and expresso machine. This place has got so much character and authenticity.

Some redecorating needed in places - carpets and window frames looking distressed (the half-moon window on the first floor being an example).

Great location - right on the beachfront with ocean views. Breakfast (included in our package) was PROPER English fare - wholesome with a good variety of options. We were even offered breakfast in our room (which we accepted gratefully!)

This is more a personal preference, than intended as a 'moan.' The radiators in bedroom and bathroom were set very high, meaning it was very hot, which some customers might like. Although we turned them down, the room remained too hot for our personal liking.

Genuinely nothing wrong (and tasted good) but service in the restaurant was a little slow with one person seeming to be doing most of the work.

Great location right on the sea front. We were treated to an upgrade to a balcony room which was fabulous. Would certainly recommend a balcony room, great views and lovely to chill after breakfast in the winter sunshine.

Breakfast was OK but bacon was thin and streaky. Not as good when we stayed before and had it in our room. Pity have to pay extra for car parking and to find a space.

We have stayed several times at The Royal with balcony but this time we got the last room. However it had a sea view and again was good value for money. Staff excellent as per usual.

Not the Hotel's fault but parking in area is Council run so need to spend a bit of time familiarising.

Luke warm water both days, so all we could manage was a brief shower. Forget about filling the bath. Room was also very hot and there appeared no way to open the windows. Not having a fridge in the room is a bit annoying too but this omission is common in English hotels.

Lovely room, delicious breakfast, sea views, friendly staff all make this hotel a really pleasant place to stay.

Bath ran very slowly and not very warm Service at breakfast was very slow (35 mins from ordering to being served) but prob a one off issue - I have not experienced such slowness before.

Location, facilities, quality and value for money all good. (Rates at The Royal can vary a lot. I have been quoted nearly £200 a night on occasion, but this rate of about £80 was about as good as I have ever had) Hotel has no car park, but the council ones near it are reasonably priced for long term parking. The room - Cornwallis- was spacious and comfortable.
