눉I didn't know that El Remate where Las Gardinas is located is 20 minutes from the airport and Flores. My plane arrived Sunday night and there were about 5 cab drivers waiting outside the airport. I usually look for someone relaxed with a friendly face but only saw people swarming me. I went back inside to consider possibilities and decided to try one of the drivers. He asked for 350 Quetzales which is a lot of money in Guatemala, $47. That sounded insane so I went back into the airport and asked around. It's 10 q to get to Flores, which is by the airport. The cab driver followed me in to the airport which I didn't like because it felt aggressive, and offered to do it for 250. I said no. While I was asking around and looking into hiring a friend of someone who worked in the cafe the cab driver said he'd do it for 200 Q. But it's not fun to be in a strange town, at night, the internet said there can be car jackings at night on that road, to see no friendly cab drivers and the cab drivers than leaving for the night, and not know anything about costs, taxis, safety, etc. The cab driver turned out to be nice and it was fine. But I wanted other people to have a head's up where Remate is. I liked Remate though. It's has a beautiful lake, you can rent a horse or motorcycle, and it's between the airport and Tikal. The hotel is nice but a little loud with street traffic. But the staff is nice and they put a lot of care into the hotel. The room smelled neutral which I like, neither like mold or bug spray, or like air freshener. Also, the wifi is out a lot. They have a very limited amount of wifi and when it's done there's no more. It goes very fast. There was one day I went in 5 times and it was out the whole day. I wasn't able to book a hotel for the next day when I was leaving and had to drive around in a taxi looking for a hotel, which sucked.
