눉Where to begin. My booking at the Everest was a mistake on my part. We were staying at the Evergreen Hotel in Jordan area (which I rate highly) but went on a short trip to Macau. I tried to rebook the Evergreen for 3 nights, but booked Everest by mistake (be careful about names). It is in an old building called Chungking Mansion that is clearly unsafe for human habitation -- exposed wires everywhere, water leaks, etc. It will be a human catastrophe if it ever catches fire. Our room was small with two beds; no place to put your luggage. Exposed wires on the wall at the head of the bed we chose to share, where a light used to be. A pipe ran down the interior wall of the bathroom from the floor(s) above and dripped steaming hot water all day, making the bathroom a sauna. At 11 p.m. until 7 a.m. there was no hot water at all available, but cold water still dripped all night. Hot water resumed at 7 a.m. The rents may be less in the Mirador and Chungking Mansion guest houses/hostels, but it is in the most expensive part of Kowloon. So, unless you want to eat from the many Middle Eastern food stalls on the ground floor, amongst the many fake watch salesman, hostel and tailor touts, and SIM card hawkers, you will have to pay premium prices at any other restaurant. Even McDonalds was more expensive in this area than in others. We found one good and reasonably priced Noodle restaurant where we could afford to eat, but it required a search. Now for the worst part -- on the last morning of our stay, I was awake at 7 a.m. when a drunk older Chinese man unlocked and walked into our room, unless he was just acting drunk. He had a key. The chain lock that used to be on the inside of our door was no longer attached. I yelled at him, and he walked away muttering something in Chinese. There was nobody guarding the hostel entrance. I found out later that a man was sleeping on the floor behind the desk.
눇Do not believe the high-rating reviews. Not much to like, Can't even say it was secure.

눉Horrible location you have to walk through a market where people harass you to buy items , you then have to either use the creepy stair case or the lift which always had queues as well as armed police and emergency services, the rooms are very compact as in the shower was a glass door away from the bed! Very intimidating!!!!!!!
눇Close to shops, trains stations and ferry! A lot cheaper than other hotels in the area , smoking in room!
