Breakfast was a bit basic for the price, which was generally higher than would be expected for a pretty standard hotel.

Very typical hotel in Matera's Sassis (old town built along the bedrock of the hill). Central. Staff was super helpful and welcoming. Superb view in the Sassi (depends on the room)

What a great experience, exceeded our expectations and so well situated. The rooms are unique in their cave like design and beautifully decorated. Definitely worth a visit and very highly recommended. The hostess, Deniso, spoke excellent English and was most helpful and knowledgeable

At the reception, they recommended a wonderful view from the parking lot opposite Matera, about 6 km away, but it is a national park where entry is prohibited, but even the bus driver at the ramp claimed that I could go there by car. After about 200 m, a lady stopped us and pointed out that we are in a national park, where entry is really prohibited, so we turned it around. However, I expect a fine :-( However, this does not change the fact that Matera and the accommodation at the Caveoso hotel are wonderful.

A nice hotel with an excellent location right in the old part of the city. I leave the room and I'm in the ancient street of the city, amazing. Breakfast had to be ordered on a separate form by items, unusual. But probably caused by the fact that it was possible to bring them into the room. Professional and friendly staff. Comfortable bed. Amazing environment in the cave, both the room and the bathroom. It is a bit unusual that the rooms are entered directly from the streets of the city. In the evening, however, tourism stops and there is peace.

The air conditioning system was not very good, and was very noisy. As well the shower system was a little awkward.

The hotel was stunning, great location right ion the historical centre, the room was spacious and super comfy. The breakfast was so good, and so lovely to have in our room.

I can’t think there’s a better place to stay in this wonderful city. We spent the first night in a cave room and the second in a balcony room. Both are fantastic. The staff really looked after us and helped optimise our experience for the length of our stay.

AC didn’t work well the first night but was great for the secound night. Couldn’t sleep with the heat. Makes me think it was controlled by the hotel.

Like everything about Matera, it was unique experience, and one that you will probably not find anywhere else in the world: staying in an actual cave! The staff were warm, welcoming and accommodating and ensured you had a 'unique experience'. They gave great advice on visiting the city, what to see and where to eat etc. They also went above and beyond such as making me a delicious breakfast pack for my room and arranging a taxi to take me to the bus station for a 7:30am coach. Bed was one of the best hotel beds I've ever stayed in. Location was perfect you were not too far away from anything! If I come back to Matera I will certainly stay at this hotel again!

Located in Sassi Caveoso, 10 min walk form where we parked, the bed was exceptionally good and we had the best sleep on the whole 3 week trip 😃
