The plugs in my room didn’t work so I had to charge devices downstairs which became a bit of a faff but I managed with a portable charger too. Although the showers were hot and powerful which is really good there wasn’t anywhere secure to hang your things so they wouldn’t get wet other than slinging a towel over the door, but this is really minor in the grand scheme of things!

Staff were super friendly and the other residents all chatted at breakfast making it feel like a little family!! Breakfast itself was the best one I’ve had travelling round Europe and although I had booked a shared form nobody else turned up the 3 nights I was there and the entire hostel was so quiet at night it was super easy to sleep.

Ostello Verbania is superbly located and has a wonderful aspect across the lake. We really enjoyed swimming in the pool, the lakeside beach, and the great buffet breakfasts.

Our chargers were broken and a man had to come and fix them but that was sorted out quickly by property. Bathrooms smelled awful and the showers were not ideal being super small and no room to hang things

Would probably have to say the lack of power sockets in the room as well as not many toilets available.

The dorm where I stayed at had so many people in it (13) that the body heat generated by each person made it feel like a sauna. If the window was closed, it became too stuffy. If the window was open, the mosquitos would eat me alive. Also, I stayed on the 3rd floor and there is no lift, so if you're carrying heavy luggage, be prepared for a nice exercise up several flights of stairs. The shower was boiling hot. You have to waste 2 minutes (such a waste of water) until the temperature goes down and you can actually shower without burning your skin. Wifi was a bit slow in the room but worked well in the common areas.

The girl working at the reception was very friendly. The building is nicely located just a 15 minute walk from the ferry terminal of Pallanza. Breakfast was surprisingly good and had a good variety of products. The area is very safe and there is a good price/quality ratio. There is a swimming pool in the property (I didn't use it though). Nice variety of DVDs, however pretty much every book there is in Italian. I suggest getting some English books too.

Such a great location. you could watch the sunset in the balcony. Delicious and rich breakfast. friendly staff. nice and chill atmosphere. affordable.

A sterile environment - it felt like they almost go out of their way to make things uncomfortable - you can’t control the temperature in the showers, there’s no place to put things in the shower, one soap dispenser for 5 sinks - and it sanitizing gel, not soap. Beds & pillows aren’t the best - uncomfortable. Almost no outlets in the room or they don’t work, besides one strip of them so everyone had to put their phones across the room at night. Also note that there’s no dorm sizes listed which feels misleading - my dorm had 12 beds - something I would have never booked had I known the size. Minimal social atmosphere (also a kids sleep away summer camp was being hosted at the same time which is strange for a hostel).

- there was no space for soap/shampoo etc. in the shower in our private bathroom - one could not choose the water temperature in the shower - the cleaning staff was quite unfriendly - the communal kitchen was very poorly equipped

- the receptionist was very friendly and helpful - the view from the hostel area was great - nice breakfast (for Italian standards) - room quite well soundproofed - beautiful view from the room

The kitchen could be as well inexistent: no salt and spices, no oil, no knifes, no garbage bin, barely dishwasher liquid, no towel, only two pans. But clean and they have a fridge. The wifi doesn't really work. I needed it to work there on my laptop, asked at the reception (to unplug it and plug it in again), they weren't really helpful. I couldn't use it during my entire stay. Very frustrating if I need it for work and you're telling me you have wifi!

Breakfast was a large buffet (but a bit sweet and not many fruits. Vegan and a lot vegetarian options). The area us beautiful and peaceful, surrounded by nature, plants, birds chirping and fresh air. Everything is really clean. The female dorm gets cleaned every day, is spacious, all good. But could need a chair, table or little things like so to place you belongings on them. Toilets are clean, but need more toilet paper! Showers are clean and warm.

The view and the location of the hostel is just wonderful. Their are many outside equipments such as a swimming pool, terrasses… The people were relay kind and the breakfast was also very good. It is really cheap for such a good hostel.

BATHROOMS (MIXTE ?) i was almost certain the nice lady at the reception had told me the bathrooms were gender seperated. but, in the morning, i was surprised to see a naked german man get out of the shower box.. on my last day, two persons were literally having sex in it.. but as always, in hostels it also depends on the visitors. you may have a nicer stay on that side compared to me. ahahah SECURITY 4 bunk beds in the female dormitory, and only one stool for the whole bedroom. no curtain, nor lockers for each bed near the beds/in the room*. some wooden cases that act as bedside tables, storage for your bags, and/or anything else. there also is one hanger for your bags, jackets, shoes, umbrellas, etc. *mind you, i have seen some lockers, but nobody during my stay has used it. i may have to bring your own locks to close it, if you ever want to use it.

VIEW this view is, quite clearly, the icing on the cake. it's very calming, relaxing, and beautiful. you have a view of a good part of the lake, the isola madre, and the other side of lago maggiore! you have long chairs, normal chairs, or grass to sit on, enjoy the view, read your books, or do any activity of your liking! LOCATION to have such a stunning view you need to be further and up in the city, but over all it is 15min from the port (with the boats leading to the different islands) the city center, etc.. and 25min walk from villa taranto, on the other side of the city. nice walks with great view, so can't complain !! BEDROOM 4 bunk beds in the female dormitory, and only one stool for the whole bedroom. some wooden cases that act as bedside tables, storage for your bags, and/or anything else. there also is one hanger for your bags, jackets, shoes, umbrellas, etc. the beds are surprisingly extremely comfortable! the view from the bedroom balcony was stunning and once you close the windows and all, you can't hear the cacophony outside! BREAKFAST very rich and full breakfast! you have tea, coffee and juice dispensers. you have dairy-free kinds of milk and gluten-free from on one side and diverse snacks and goodness on the other side. from saltines to chocolate croissants, with slices of bread and various jams, kinds of butter, etc.. cheese, ham, fruits, and everything is on the table. you just have to serve yourself! RECEPTION/CHECK-IN the absolutely adorable and nice young lady at the reception is very welcoming ! be prepared to sign and fill in some documents, so be patient with her. she's really patient, so be the same with her !! she has nice recommendations and is very resourceful.

The showers are different. Some of them are normal and some of them work for 2 seconds then turn off. I only saw the one that turned off and thought they were all like that.

Stunning location. Amazing view from the window. Great for kids. 2 trampolines and a 5 a side football pitch with extensive grounds, an easy walk to town or to the Villa Taranto gardens. Plenty of space to sit outside.

- In 303 hair dryer does not work so used the one from other area.

- Beautiful location. Near to the center and ferry dock. - Breakfast was good with breads, cheese, jams, butter, healthy cereals cakes etc, some italian sweets and fruits. Maybe some investment in the coffee maker to improve the taste can aviid some reviewers bad reviews as they overlook everything else because of coffee. - Difficult to beat the price quality ratio. Well done hostel team. - The reception lady in glasses was very nice and provide all asked information. - Set of 2 towels cost 4 euros. Thats usual for many hostels no issues. -
