눉My stay was lovely and I didn't find things I disliked. These are just this to note. The guesthouse is in an actual Japanese style house with tatami mats in the rooms. The rooms are compact and the stairs are steep but I didn't find this to be a downside at all. It was just part of the experience. The guesthouse is very easy to find if you follow the directions, especially the pictures, Mr and Mrs Li give you. When you turn into the guesthouse, you have to walk into a small alleyway for less than a minute. I didn't find this to be an issue even though I arrived at night.
눇This was my first time to Japan and therefore, Kyoto. I stayed in another accommodation near Nishiki Market the night before and I found that the location of this guesthouse is much better as there are a lot of points of interest nearby. Its a 5 to 10 minute walk to Kiyomizu Dera. Near that is Sannenzaka and Ninenzaka (great places to buy snacks and souvenirs) and you can walk up a strip that leads to several other temples and goes up to Maruyuma Park and leads to the Gion area (within a 25 minute walk). The guesthouse is owned and run by Mr and Mrs Li, who are very friendly and polite and unbelievably cheerful. They have great communication through email and sent me the directions to the guesthouse weeks before my arrival and sent me an email letting me know that my room was ready ahead of the check-in time the day of my stay. Mr Li provided a tour of the Gion area via car at night, which was great because being a solo female traveller, I had not planned on being able to explore too much later at night. Mr Li even offered to take pictures for me with his new camera and sent them to me via email. The room has all the comforts you may need, including a flash light and alarm, a tumbler full of warm water and a comfortable mattress with a fluffy comforter. The temperature of the room was very easy to control and very comfortable. A lot of great extras were provided including canned Japanese coffee and soda and use of Japanese pajamas. The shared shower and washroom were very clean and had all the basic bathing products you may need. The guesthouse has one shower room and a separate male and female washroom but I didn't find it to be an issue during my one night stay as the facilities were available whenever I needed them. This guesthouse experience was filled with personal touches and was very comfortable. Mr and Mrs Li are extremely hospitable.

눇This is my first time to write a review for a place where I stayed, but for this place, I feel I must spend some time writing down how good it is. This family-style hotel is owned by a Taiwanese couple. They are considerate, nice, helpful and always go extra miles to help you experience the local life. The couple are well-educated and have much life experience themselves. Their stories are as fantastic as their hotel is. I'll strongly recommend this place if you come to Kyoto.
