Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1–10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We're currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate "subscores" in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United States of AmericaThe walk from the Tonosawa bus station to the hotel was arduous with baggage. It seems to me the hotel could put instructions how to get there from above so one could walk down instead of up.
The personal rotemburo on the room balcony was relaxing. The dinners were outstanding. The staff was very friendly.

United KingdomFor westerners, not having a shower was a bit of a shame as it's more difficult to wash your hair in 40 degree water. But as long as you are aware of this in advance, it's not a problem! The location is tricky to get to from the train station without a hiking pack as it's up a very steep path with steps. You need to be fit and healthy to carry the luggage up, but if you come in a car this is not a hassle.
Food was lovely and they were able to cater for my partner who doesn't eat fish and gave him special options (you just need to tell them when booking). Private onsen on the balcony was lovely, overlooking some cherry blossom. Staff were really friendly and despite the language barrier did their very best to help you.

LatviaWas a bit of a hike to train station and taxis a bit hit and miss. Would have been lovely had the staff had enough English to explain the food and kimono etiquette etc

United States of AmericaThe room was comfortable although an indoor shower would've been nice after the in-room onsen. The dinner was fabulous, fresh and included drinks! Breakfast was also very nice. Best of all, the onsen experience was most relaxing and soothing!

SingaporeThis ryokan is a bit old. Though still has its charms, but the room could use some upgrades to make it more comfortable.
The kaiseki dinner is great. A variety of food, good tasting and generous amount. In room onsen is really a bonus (though a bit small, enough for 1 pax at a time). The public onsen (close and open) is nice! Have unlimited free drinks at the reception area, which is really a nice gesture.

MalaysiaThere're no hand towel hook or hanger. The breakfast buffet is the same for the 2 days we're there. Not very appetizing The soft boiled eggs are cold with condensation from the fridge. No fresh fruits as well. Dinner was prepared on the table well in advanced before we came down for dinner even though we told them our time of dinner at 6.30pm instead of 5.45pm
I liked the in room hot tub which can fit both of us at the same time. The room is large.

United KingdomThe rooms were very badly designed , awkward to get around. the private onsen, though fun, made the room rather claustrophobic. The only public space was the lobby. You were chased out of the dining room immediately the meal was finished.
The food was delicious and generous . The private onsen was nice. You could access the station, albeit via steep steps and a bus.

AustraliaCan't think of anything.
We stayed for one night and the highlight was the dinner and breakfast. The room had a onsen which was lovely. We found it easy to access the hotel from the station but we are used to walking up steps.

United KingdomThe bedrooms are badly designed with nowhere to put anything. The private outdoor onsens make the room dark and a bit claustrophobic and are minimally outdoor. There’s no real view from anywhere in the property, no communal space, no outdoor area.

DenmarkIt was a bit difficult to get to the hotel, I think even harder if you don't know any Japanese at all. The madres' on the beds were to hard for our taste and cold wind from the outside could be felt weeping in from the terasse doors.
You get a very traditional authentic experience when staying at this hotel, both regarding the food and the style of the room. The staff was very nice, but their English skills were not very good. We had a private onsen bath in our room which was clearly the highlight of the stay.
