Each review score is between 1–10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We're currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive info (e.g. emails, phone numbers, credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (i.e. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.

Breakfast was excellent, while location was not central it was still reasonable easy to get around, and the free shuttle bus service was good.

Aside from the imperial palace, it is quite distanced from other attractions, requiring taxi rides or a ca. 1km walk to the nearest subway station & bus stop, Imedegawa station. The hotel restaurants are quite busy, especially during peak tourist seasons, thus advance reservation is recommended.
Beautiful and spacious building with rooms arranged a central atrium, which gives it an airy, uncrowded atmosphere - unlike many other Japanese hotels. Rooms are spacious & well furnished. Staff are friendly & helpful. Location is excellent to visit the imperial palace.

At check in, I feel like staff investigate me many things before I can check in. Like I have to put my Thai address in detail. This is the first hotel that I have to give my private information. It would be better if staff please be more friendly and smile. The unlucky chance was about laundry... I did prepared clothes lists and put on the hotel laundry bag and leave in room as the staff checked in explain to me. But in reality is I have to call house keeper. Even if whom came to clean our room saw it they just gave us the paper with information of how to send clothes to laundry.....If can send for us it would be great... But unlucky we didnt get that chance.
The location is good. I xan walk to Kyoto Imperial Palace and Kamo river in 2 kms. The room is very clean and convenience. Breafast is the best I love Lychee for western breakfast. I did mistake about losing 2 breakfast vouchers in the last day then I asked staff at reception he was very kind and gave it to me immediately without investigation. . I do appreciate it alot.

A suggestion really. The hotel is outside of the main tourist centre of Kyoto. Coming back, particularly after a night-out it is very tempting to just hail a taxi, but note that the subway is a fraction of the cost. The hotel is between subway stops, but it is actually less than a 15 minute walk from either station and the streets felt perfectly safe, even late at night.

Spacious, comfy, well-equipped rooms, fantastic bathroom. Great restaurants and kind service. Location is next to Kyoto Imperial Palace, bus stops in walking distance to other major temple sites. The nearest metro station is 20 mn walk away.

Breakfast buffet wasn't as good as in some places.
Staff was very helpful because I had fractured my arm and needed to stay extra days.

Not at all! Perfect!
All of the staff is kind and hospitable. The room is wide and clean, silently. Breakfast is so excellent!, I especially like the egg roll that is very hot and juicy with dashi. I am relaxing while staying in this hotel.

Sophisticated atmosphere. Shuttle bus from a nearby station. (Wait in front of a 7/11 Convenient store. Be aware … there is another 7/11 on the other side of the road! The one for the shuttle is smaller) Well trained staff Clean room

There is nothing we didn't like.
We have been traveling to Kyoto several times this past year and go to this hotel regularly. Our stay was this time again great, the hotel staff very nice and helpful, the room was spacious and had a beautiful view over the roofs of Kyoto with mountains in the background, the shuttle very helpful. The possibility to rent bicycles directly from the hotel is also convenient.

This is my third time staying with Kyoto Brighton Hotel over a course of 5-6 years. I still found their standard and quality being exceptional. It never fails to impress. The staff at the concierge are friendly and helpful. This is my number one choice to stay whenever I come to visit Kyoto.

The mattresses were a little too hard and we felt that the room temperature was too warm. Bar atmosphere was a little flat when we had a drink there, but that's not a biggie. Would certainly stay here again.
Good location, enjoyed proximity to the Imperial Palace. Good connectivity to the main sites of interest in Kyoto. Comfortable rooms which easily accommodated our family of four. Good breakfast buffet.

Well trained staff- very helpful Shuttle bus from/to nearby train station. Very clean Lobby atmosphere- sophisticated Pianist playing piano at the lobby for Christmas.

The western breakfast is very basic, the value fot the price is not fair. The location is far from public transport.
