Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1–10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We're currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate "subscores" in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.

By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United States of AmericaWe absolutely loved our 2 night stay. We spent the day exploring the 3 beautiful temples within walking distance of the ryokan. The beds were comfortable and the rooms were extremely clean and spacious to relax in. The food was THE BEST. Loved this relaxing getaway in the middle of our trip!

CanadaThe whole experience was amazing and I stand by everything I said previously. But because it is such a novel experience I would say one night is plenty!
The price may seem a little bit steep however what comes with it is, great service, and more importantly dinner (check in before 5) and breakfast in the morning! The staff was wonderful and they truly encapsulated the omotenashi experience Japan is known for!

United States of AmericaNot having chairs. Lol! But that was entirely our option. I wanted the full cultural experience without realizing how much I appreciated chairs. They do offer rooms with chairs and even western style beds.
The convenient shuttle, the area was beautiful, the rooms had everything we needed, the meals were immaculate, and the staff was wonderful.

CanadaHonestly, there was nothing I could complain about. Just a wow
Such beautiful surroundings in nature. The property itself and the stunning scenery around it with great hikes and temples. The attention to detail by the Staff, the feeling of a truly authentic Ryokan experience was excellent. In more ways than I could ever express, this stay exceeded our expectations.

United States of AmericaOur stay was during late January and the temperature can get pretty low, but the outdoor onsen was amazing to enjoy in the cold and the heated mat on the tatami mats was a nice touch.
We enjoyed the room with the private onsen and thoroughly enjoyed the dinner and breakfast that was included with the stay. The shuttle to and from the hotel was also a great convenience!

United States of AmericaThe stone path up to the ryokan is steep (a bit dangerous for younger or older people). The pillows were very flat and hard. The extra pillows found in the closet looked dirty. The breakfast was not as good as dinner, felt a little small with mostly pickled items, rice, and soup.
The location is amazing! Right up in the mountains, full of autumnal foliage (even late in the season). It's so beautiful to look at from the moment you see the suspension bridge overlooking the river. It was the beginning of December and there were still some maple trees, plenty of red leaves on the ground. The rooms are spacious, had a heating pad on the floor, and the private garden was gorgeous and very tranquil as I took a hot bath in the ceramic tub. Dinner was served in our room and was delicious. I felt like I was in a movie. I could only stay one night but enjoyed every moment.

ColombiaIf you're staying only 1 night I don't suggest taking the shuttle to get to the hotel, since you will waste precious time when you can get there by bus and can check-in at 3pm normally

United States of AmericaLovely staff let us know that meals by the river were only during the summer - what a shame! We'll have to come back again
Beautiful views of fall foliage, overall serene and invigorating experience. Staff go above and beyond to make sure you are comfortable. Our private outdoor bath was a highlight of the whole trip. We easily reserved the shuttle bus service through the email on their webpage and it arrived right on time. We stayed 2 nights so we could have a full day to explore the nearby temples.

United KingdomBeautiful area, so tranquil and wonderful staff. Everyone was so welcoming, took our bags to our rooms, picked up at the train station via shuttle. Wish I could’ve checked in earlier, to see more of the area even if not going to the room right away. But there is only one shuttle bus. They were so fantastically accommodating about my gluten allergy and made a special Kaiseki meal for me with gluten free soy sauce and all! The meals (dinner and breakfast) were an experience in themselves, and the outdoor tub was so peaceful. Rooms are simple but to be expected from a traditional inn.

United KingdomOur only issue was finding a bus to the area. This was partially our fault because we didn't get to Hanazono for the shuttle in time, but also Google as it could not identify where the bus stop was so we struggled with that aspect. Once we knew what bus we needed however, it was easy going from the ryokan around Kyoto.
The area this ryokan is situated in is absolutely stunning. It's in perfect position to visit the Jingo-ji temple which is beautiful at this time of year. The staff were so helpful, and always polite. We were greeted off of the bus, after a bit of a long rainy day with smiles, welcomes and thankfully, umbrellas! We were promptly shuttled to the hotel where they had put our shipped luggage in our room so it was waiting for us. We enjoyed the food - bring big appetites! The food is traditional Japanese which was a good experience for us as it was our first time eating a traditional dinner and breakfast. We were also able to choose a shabu-shabu dinner for our second night. The staff were very understanding when we had to cancel one breakfast as I'd made a mistake with our itinerary. They were also very keen to offer a shuttle to and from the hotel, one in morning and one in the afternoon. They arranged a taxi for us with no problem, and stored our luggage for a little while after check-out so we could go and see Jingo-ji temple. The whole experience was a treat and we are very grateful to the staff.

AustraliaThis Ryokan was beautiful. The location was breathtaking and I highly recommend staying here for a night or two! They offer a shuttle bus from the local JR station to the property which was really helpful, just ensure you let them know beforehand. The staff were lovely and respectful. Dinner was an experience like no other. I had let them know a few days prior we were vegetarians and they were more than happy to accommodate. The roll out futon’s were actually more comfy than expected!
