Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1–10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We're currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate "subscores" in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United States of AmericaNo criticisms.
What a great experience--spending the night in a traditional Japanese inn. We slept on futons on the floor, and experienced a private onsen communal bath. Luckily, I was the only one at the time. There were only 8 rooms and 10 guests. I went with my 44 year old daughter. We wore Japanese outfits that were in the room and wore Japanese pj's that were in the room. I paid extra for a traditional Japanese dinner (which my daughter didn't want to try) and watched a Japanese chef serve 8 small courses and cook in a hot pot. Breakfast was a traditional Japanese breakfast that was a feast. It was so much fun and a great way to start our Kyoto stay. I was disappointed that I didn't get to stay in the same Ryoken that my niece had stayed in, but was thrilled with this second choice which I can highly recommend. The Ryoken is build around a Japanese atrium garden that has running water and beautiful foliage. I loved this property. It truly was the highlight of our trip to Japan and really gives the flavor of the culture of traditional Japanese life. Thank you, Booking.Com for alerting me to this Ryoken. Thank you, fellow reviewers for recommending this Ryoken. I would say this was a real winner.

FranceWe had a wonderful experience at the Yuzuya Ryokan. The establishment has an authentic charm that takes us on a journey into Japanese culture. Everything is luxury, calm and voluptuousness. The Japanese-style rooms are pleasant and comfortable with all the necessary amenities for a comfortable stay. Common places are attractive and aesthetic, particularly the bath which allows you to try Japanese culture in yuzu-flavored water. Regarding gastronomy, we had a Japanese dinner and breakfast, we were not disappointed. The dishes are delicate, refined and elegantly presented. Despite our different culinary habits (notably savory breakfast is not in our culture), we were pleasantly surprised by this meal and it was an authentic experience. The staff is very helpful, smiling, attentive to our expectations to ensure that we have a pleasant stay at the yuzuya ryokan. I will definitely stay there again during a new trip to Kyoto.

GibraltarSet just next to Yasaka-jinja, the location of this ryokan is perfect. I cannot recommend this stay more, particularly for those looking for a traditional ryokan experience. The staff were lovely, food delicious, and the rooms were exceptionally clean. A must for Kyoto!

United States of AmericaExcellent location. Wonderful aesthetic! Clean and spacious room. There is a little garden inside the ryokan. You are provided with yukata (summer kimonos) to wear if you want. Breakfast was also delicious!! A wide array of Japanese dishes plated in a beautiful manner. This was a truly one of a kind experience.

My stay at Yuzuya was absolutely wonderful. The hotel staff are professional and friendly. They are able to anticipate your needs and provide their service above your expectations. The breakfast is of course splendid. If you want to experience a traditional Ryokan experience, Yuzuya is the place for you.

CanadaWe selected the Japanese multi course dinner and traditional breakfast which were both amazing and delicious. It required us to “rethink” our breakfast experience. If you are a North American who loves a traditional American breakfast, the Japanese tradition breakfast will require you to reframe your breakfast expectations.
The authentic experience was wonderful. Such a great property. So soothing. The staff was very friendly and welcoming. The dinner was incredible.

United States of AmericaI have absolutely nothing I disliked. From start to finish Yuzuya was a perfect experience.
The property is a traditional inn and bath house that maintains a natural elegance. I loved the look and feel of the quiet semi-private atmosphere Yuzuya cultivated. The Kaiseki dinner was one of the best meal experiences I have had. Even when compared to Michelin star restaurants. Both in room private baths and the onsen baths were exactly what I expected. A mix of true relaxation and unique luxury. The staff was very friendly and patient with all of our questions. They were even kind enough to hold our bags after we checked out just so we could walk to a museum without all our luggage.
