Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1–10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We're currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate "subscores" in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.

By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United KingdomThe mosquito net was ripped, and in the rain and with the jungle location, there were some bugs - but not too bad.
Breakfast was delicious, and the staff were very friendly and helpful.

United KingdomThe clientele weren't very social. Maybe the hostel could do a few more things to break the ice between guests like social events.
I paid for a 4 bed dorm, but they offered a private twin room as they had the vacancy. They provided passion fruit juice on arrival and were in no hurry to take payment. The layout is fantastic, with a treehouse to sit and chill, and a bar/kitchen to eat and drink.

United KingdomWas very hot at night in bed, the fan didn’t really work well. The mosquito net had many holes and dead bugs on it, maybe time to put a new one there?
Chami, his wife and all of the staff here are so lovely! Location is great, close to the beach and shops, bars, many restaurants. The room was quite ok, it was basic but clean enough, however (as other reviewers seem to mention) it did smell weird. The food is incredible, although the bar gets very busy at the evenings and means a long wait for your meal sometimes, so I suggest to eat around 6pm or 9pm

BelgiumThe first room we were in was very damp smelling, but we asked to change and they were super accommodating! In the treehouse room, there were cockroaches, big spiders, holes in our mosquito net and there were birds or other animals that in the night would be fighting on our roof. One night the local dogs were barking all night long. We know these things can’t be controlled however would have been nice to know in advance that you are getting the nature feel for your stay.
Staff were super nice, great food, location is really cool and jungle like. Great music all day and night.

United KingdomUnique stay in the treehouse I booked 2 tree house studios for an overnight stay in Hikkawadu . The Studios as with the whole establishment oozed character. Rustic, wooden, pitched ceiling. My room also had a lovely balcony. Simply decorated (although the ceiling in mine was covered in Stamford Bridge football material 😀) with toilet and wash basin. Private showers were, however, situated outside, downstairs. Rooms were clean but as we were in the tree houses admist nature, We did find a large cockroach in both our rooms and a small gap in the roof covering meant I had a little lizard pop its head in .if you are a light sleeper, take ear plugs as you hear a lot of rustling, which might make it a bit difficult to sleep. Aside from that, waking up to a delicious Sri Lankan breakfast in the cafe made up for the lack of sleep. However, what I most liked and enjoyed about Chami's place was the social atmosphere. Chilled unpretentious vibes drawing in an array of visitors, who we got chatting and who gave us great recommendations of places to visit in the short time we had.. Loved the colourful creative, artistic, quirky design admidst a mass of greenery and great use of space on different levels, exudes so much positivity. The staff were super friendly, great hospitality, and greeting us with refreshing coconut water. The lovely ladies allowed us to leave our luggage while we explored the area and let us change clothing in one of the empty rooms leading off the communal area. Chami himself is such a personsble friendly guy, full of character. Clearly known by regular visitors and well liked. I only wished we had stayed longer than one night and had the opportunity to hang out and enjoy the venue and explore the area a bit more without rushing. Location is great walking distance to main street and Turtle beach, as well as the train station. Overall Great value i would come back on my return to Sri Lanka... I highly recommend 100 %.

SwitzerlandWe felt at home from the first minute. Chami and his whole team show exceptional hospitality and always give their best to make sure that their guests feel comfortable. The place is simple and close to nature, yet you have every comfort needed. They take a lot of care of this unique place. The best thing however was the food. The first night we didn't feel like going out and tried the curries and Kottu. After that we never went to another place in Hikkaduwa ;) We even had the possibility to help prepare our own dinner and learn how the cook works her magic :) The Sri Lankan breakfast was amazing and we discovered something new every day. We'll definitely come back!

BelgiumBecause the place is very natural, it is erry important not to keep food in the room. We had some small but cute visitors who were sometimes a bit noisy. But it was still an amazing stay.
We spend our first few nights in Sri Lanka here. It was the perfect place to start our trip and had everything we needed. The dinner was great, the people working there were amazing. We really loved the natural and relaxed vibe we got there. Even tough it was super near to the main street it felt like we were in the middle of the jungle.

NorwayWiFi needs improvement.
This must be Sri Lanka's coolest budget accommodation? Decades ago the beaches were full of these kinds of places, now there is sadly just a concrete jungle there. Chami's is set back from the beach up a nice jungly lane, and it is very 'jungly'. A lot of effort and creativity has been put into creating this place. There is a restaurant as well. I had a 'studio' room, which was a hut on stilts with my own balcony as well. Plenty of charging outlets, even one on the balcony. The room was comfortable and airy. Private toilet and wash basin, charged shower, an outdoor one, very refreshing. Very friendly staff.

United KingdomNothing, everything was perfect!
The place has clearly just been redecorated which is great, unlike alot of hostels in this country, everything was super fresh and clean! The staff were on point and did not mind me checking in early. Chami is a really nice guy and gave me excellent recommendations on where to go and what to see. The bed was big, had a full size mosquito net, 4 pillows 😁 and two towels for me to use! I don't usually leave reviews, but this place was so good that it absolutely deserves one! 10/10

SlovakiaWhile the retreat offered seclusion from the city's liveliness, the outdoor shower brought an element of adventure with its interaction with occasional visitors like frogs. Furthermore, the room wasn't entirely free from other visitors, including mosquitoes, ants, spiders, and centipedes
Amidst the vibrant energy of Hikkaduwa, this self-hosted retreat offered a peaceful haven slightly removed from the city's buzz. The room exuded a positive vibe with its vibrant wooden furniture, well-maintained restroom, and the convenience of a mosquito net for restful sleep. Breakfasts were a standout, hearty and flavorful, while the proximity to the beach added to the overall charm. The staff's friendliness and the well-stocked common room with plenty of books for reading were definite pluses.
