116, Riad Zitoune Kedim, Medina, 40000 Marrakech, Morocco
30 January 2016
눉The room was advertised as "superior" and it seemed a wide one in the pictures on booking.com, but it's actually quite small (it has a double bed and some nice furniture, but not much space left to move around). It seems to be the same as the "standard" room actually. The bathroom door doesn't provide any privacy as the upper side is open, which may be embarassing if you don't like sharing literally "everything" with your partner. The worst part, however, was finding out that we had paid the standard price for the room (the price being provided on a leafleft inside the room itself), even though it was advertised as "discounted" on booking.com ("special offer for limited time only"... not really). There is no discount infact: we paid the same price as any guest who would take the room directly at the riad at any time of the year. When we enquired the receptionist about this, he made it even worse mentioning something about high and low season differences, which makes no sense as 1) it's an unrelated thing 2) I could find no evidence of different high/low season prices in the riad: there is only one price printed everywhere 3) the discounted price applied to the date I booked the room for. The receptionist also gave us wrong (i.e. smaller) change, which he likely didn't do on purpose but certainly didn't help in the situation. He immediately gave us the remaining change when I made him notice the mistake though. (Be aware that everywhere in Marrakesh, you get change in Dirham when you pay cash in Euro.)
눇The riad is in a very good location - if you do enjoy the idea of a stay in the souk. Be prepared to repeated and insistent approach by people trying to sell you any kind of stuff and excursions as soon as you walk out the riad's door - but that is why you want to be in the Medina. If you hate the idea, choose a place outside the souks. The building is very nice, with a beatiful central countryard and an amazing terrace on the top. Breakfast is served till late in the restaurant and is very good - but I'd same the same of any breakfast we had in Morocco. Clean room and nice interior design. We were welcomed by a lady who was very kind and smiling. Gererally speaking, I think you can enjoy a quite pleasant stay here, if you experience no "incident" as the one I mentioned in the other section here.
