Each review score is between 1–10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We're currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate "subscores" in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive info (e.g. emails, phone numbers, credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (i.e. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.

Staff this time around were abrupt, unfriendly. Customer service skills, so I would encourage retraining. A smile goes a long way, and so does a hello. The menu had tasty food. However, an improvement would be to laminate the menu itself, ensure the server has a smile, and is friendly. I would also recommend that perhaps a basic continental breakfast is offered as well for those with families (2 or more children). I also suggest that water carafes and glasses be offered to those with a large family or big group (breakfast time).
We have stayed here multiple times because it is Family friendly, clean and in the past the staff have been amazing.

Would have been good to have a microwave. The pigeons woke us up on Sunday morning dancing outside our room.
The bed was comfortable & clean. Location wasn't important as we had a car, but there was a good Turkish takeaway within walking distance. Close to Western Springs walking area.

The traffic noise as our room was near the front and a noisy person living above us who marched up and down at night.
The room was very comfortable, well equipped with a little eating bar. Great to have the restaurant across the street for a pub meal

Originally we were in a room which was only reached by stairs. The reception desk people were extremely friendly and changed our room that didn’t need any stairs which was great.

This hotel is lovely and very cute. It didn't suit our itinerary this time around but it is a beautiful location with many little shops and restaurants that would be wonderful to explore. The rooms were clean, the beds comfortable and cozy and it is nice to have a set of 4 dishes (at most hotels you get only 2). We made use of the pool which was also clean. Though a bit chilly it didn't overly impact our fun. When our Uber Eats order did not arrive, the restaurant were extremely helpful and accomodating and prepared a lovely meal in a very timely matter to help feed 3 tired and hungry children. Thank you to all the staff - everyone we encountered was kind and helpful.

The walls were quite thin so I could hear a lot of loud noises coming from the neighbours, but it was not a constant thing, just every now and then.
The facilities were very clean and well maintained, the staff were kind and the location was perfect for the purpose of our stay as it wasn’t far from anything.

The room by the pool is horrible, too noisy. Other guests were noisy. Alot of door slamming. Probably only sounded bad because its a large open area but at 1am its horrible.
The room was clean, the staff were amazing, and I'll definitely try the sunday roast on return. Loved travelling to eat at Ponsonby Central This location is perfect! Overall, I'd still recommend this hotel.

Wifi needs repeated logging in
The hotel has 2 sites - (the main site) north-east of Gt. North Rd and (a smaller site)south-west of Gt. North Rd. I have stayed several times at the Surrey and this is the first time that I have stayed on the main site. It was much quieter and more private than the other site, across the road. I was offered vouchers to use the restaurant and I had a dinner with 20% discount. The menu had a reasonable selection and the food was average: nicely cooked, good quantity, but not especially flavoursome (bangers and mash.) Check-in / out was efficient, with friendly, helpful staff

It can be a bit noisy- either from road noise or from neighbouring rooms, or other guests walking to/ from rooms. Internet works well, good speed, but forever needs logging in - annoying when doing business work/ emails online, then stopping to make calls.
It's fairly close to the CBD and motorways. Easy destination by car to the airport. Bus stops to the CBD are close. Numerous cafes, general stores (dairies) and takeaways are nearby. Quick and easy check-in, friendly, efficient staff
